Just wondering if someone could care to shed some lights about my confusion.I received numerous phone calls with people offering me "free" online classes promising 100% guaranteed placements. What struck me is the fact that some seemed to hint I wasn't qualified enough due to my limited background.

But the biggest confusion is, some companies are offering 6 week classes (M-f 9 am- 5 pm) while some are offering 2 day classes for 6-8 weeks)..... Now my question is, If I were to join the latter courses, will I have received adequate training so that I wouldn't get fired during the project?

Somebody kindly help please.

Yeah brother did you mean QA as in Quality Assurance?or sth else?r
It would be easy if you clear your background and the type of QA training you talking about.

Damn bro. I really thought you were gonna add something I didn't know already.

Like I already said, my knowledge on technology, programming etc is almost zero. So I thought maybe someone could enlighten me on whether 2 classes of 2 hrs each per week would help me...

Thanks for your help though...

 hey Footyfan,
I am wondering like you are. I don;t have any technical background either. Since my higher secondary all I took was management major till my my master. But Struggling a lot to find a decent job yet. Now all I know is NO Pain NO Gain...
I am going with online training for QA too and very optimistic that it will work. I am planning on giving my best. I know it might take a year or more but once you get there just need to hang on for 1 year  after that u made your career....
so don;t be afraid.....

and ofcourse they won;t give their best training and knowledge ..and the training they provide will be on surface ..its you who have to do the deep study...

Regards,
Kripaya

Sorry to disappoint you my brother. Seems like you have done some research on your own and I didn't want to go blah blah blah...!
What I wish to say is most QA position would have their own requirements(In manufacturing sector) and it would not hurt to gain  training of anykind if it is from a  reliable source.

 Hey Kripaya,

Thanks for your response. I must admit that I've done a decent amount of research about it. Also, I'd highly suggest you NOT to take an online course. There are plenty of institutes around the country, especially in NJ, Bay Area and Texas where they actually offer 5-day/ week classes for 6 weeks. On top of that, those are full time trainings (9 am-5 pm). Now compare that to someone who offers an online training 90 mins... There's not much you could learn imo. I suppose I might sound like I'm contradicting myself but I wish some qualified, experienced QAs came forward.

One of them also offered me an online training on FICO/SAP as it is related to my major but I'm now more puzzled than ever.

Thanks for your input too, sanju.baba.

 Btw Kripaya,

If you've got a Masters in Management, I reckon you'd do better in SAP/FICO....Have you looked into it?

 hey footyfan,
why do u recommend SAP/FICO? Honestly, I haven;t done any research on them but I will now. And I wanted to join free class training as well but couldn;t find any near by where I can compute and I have another job to survive u know. And can;t move to another state.
So my limited options made me choose online training.

As kripya pointed out, someone with Masters degreee in mgmt should try SAP/FICO. If you put sincere effort and excell it- you will make really decent money - it pays good.

Most of us scare a lot un-necessarily.. and let this unknown 'fear of not suceeding' occupy 99% of our mind. And this does not work.  If  spending another 6 months of time learning a technology will puts your entire future to different level, then why dont you try? Most of us have worked 12-13 hours/day low paying job at student life.. I bet, if you study/learn any technology 12 hrs/day in the same way, you will master it in six months, no matter what is your prior knowledge.

Next, always go to your first job to 'get fired' - at least expect this at worst. You wont lose anything even if you get fired in 2 weeks- instead you will learn something- e.g. how the real work environment looks like. That experince will help you to crack interview next time. Getting fired is not a crime.. it wont damage your credit score.. you wont get ticket.. so why are you worried of getting fired in your first  job? Always consider your first job as an 'experiment'.. No big deal. right?

Getting high paying job in US, where there are people from around the world, needs somethig 'extra' in you, and that 'extra' in you should be 'I-wont-give-up' kind of mentality. You need to observe certain descipline to get that mentality .. e.g. get motivated, learn necessary soft skills, learn more techology, less facebook and youtube ;).. and make plan. Don't let uncessary fear drag you..

I know one indian at my work place, who openly admits with me that he was working in best buy as a sales man, before one desi consultant caught him and palced him in this job after six months of training.

just my 2cents..

 Kripaya,

I asked you to look into a career as a SAP FICO consultant because the money (billing rate) blew my mind. You'll be making at least 50 bucks an hour. I was looking into QA/BA Training myself but my major in college will help me better if I pursued SAP Fico as opposed to QA/BA as I have a mediocre computer skills. I've been told that even an Indian Housewife can do the job of a QA but even then, I thought why not try for a different module that not only pays way more, but is actually something related to my major. You should definitely look into it.

Also, I highly doubt anybody offers you a free training per se. Most of them ask for security deposits that's refundable after you get 3rd paychecks or so. The best I've come across is a NJ Company w/ a branch in California offering me free accomodation to go with a monthly "salary" of getting paid a certain amount for the training itself! But who knows, there might be options out there.

And you hit it on the nail, ANS. Too often, we're scared more than anything else. I was skeptical about myself but things have changed in a week.

I wish some SAP FICO gurus came out and shed some lights on this regard.

 Hey Footyfan,
That was really inspiring and motivating. I been thinking the same, a year of struggle might change my life forever so why not try it. I will keep you posted after I join the consultancy. And all the best wishes to you as well.
Thanks once again.
Kripaya.

Guys,

I have some "bad" news to share. Please think at least 10 times before applying for an "online" training. I paid 300 bucks as part of a security deposit (that they had agreed to refund if I quit the program before the end of third lecture) and after the second day of Training, I realized that they were big time scammers.

The recruiter had "promised" me that I'd be making anywhere between 60-90 bucks (in all honesty, she wasn't wrong, if you could land a job as a SAP FI CO consultant, you'll make anywhere from 70k - 140k or even beyond) but there had to be a catch. Surely, you couldn't get a job that paid that high after 4 weeks of training. I suppose I was fooled by the big talk and enrolled but like I aforementioned, by the second day, I started realizing something fishy. FIrst, they had told me that the training would be 60-90 min long. By the end of day 2, my online instructor had spent 55 mins total. Further, he was supposedly in L.A. but on Day 2, the frequent honks of cars was a dead giveaway that he was actually in some part of India! What an idiot!

Anyway, I acted promptly to ensure that I got the money refunded. I told her that SAP was too vague for me and I'd rather start training for QA module but in a few weeks time. She insisted that I allowed them to keep the security deposit so that they could "hold" my "guaranteed" placement to avoid any unfortunate event that somebody else grabbed my spot. What a load of crap. I told her that I'd rather she contacted me in 3 weeks time and asked her to process the refund. If I don't see it refunded by Wednesday, I'll be calling my bank for a fradulent transaction.

In short, forget the 200 bucks, I almost fell for the scam and lost my 1500 bucks. Good thing I actually googled the institute for reviews. Basically, how they operated was pretty simple. They had phone numbers based in the US but they were actually operating from India itself! So just do a quick math. 25-30 hrs of jibberish "lecture" with an objective of earning 1500 bucks (50/hour!). At the end of the course, they wouldn't answer phone calls, even if they did, they'd continuously ignore your pleas of placements and in the end, you'd have ended up losing both the money and your own precious time.

Hence, I reckon its better if you took a course from an actual consultancy so you could nag them in an event their promise wasn't fulfilled.

Don't fall for this "online training" crap folks.
