Interesting Video....But one thing the professor undermines is the effect of one immigrant to his family back home. I actually did some college research paper on this topic while i was in college. We talked to few immigrants from somalia and sudan and found out that one immigrant to the first world is at least making a difference of 5 - 20 people back home directly and those 5 - 20 people were effecting another possible 100 people in thier community. So the million immigrant could be effecting 100 million other people in their world directly or indirectly.

The professor is correct however in terms of first world bringing in the "cream" of the country. The "creams" are more focused on their own life rather than making a difference to people back home. Their families are usually well off back home and these are more likely to bring their money/wealth from poverty striken country then add any value to the community he is from.

In my opinion Immigration could help reduce extreme poverty if right people were given chance. Immigration does not happen because the first world wants to make a difference in the third world. It happens because they want cheap labor and they are getting it from cheaper places.

The politics however says we are doing it for the good of human beings whiles its done all for the profit.

The well off immigrants of third world are not sending back any money because they are already well off back home and they are not contributing to the remittance of third world. These well off immigrants spend almost all their earnings in first world buying homes and car and vacationing. But the middle class and lower class immigrants are the onces who are contributing to their community back home.

The people who grew up their entire life in city, who did not have to go through proverty their entire life would not know the sufferings of poverty. They can just be sympathetic to poor people and donate. But who has gone through poverty in their life would know the real sufferings of poverty.

In fact the professor has not considered the "trickle effect" of the economy.
A good example of where immigration has helped the development of the other can be seen as india and china. With the skills learnt and money earned they setup businesses and factories back home which helped in the rapid development of the country from which the poorest benefitted the most as they could find a better job and increased wage.
