Hi Friends.

Well this thought had crossed my mind couple of times but I did not had the courage to convert myself to be vegetarian. But the more I think of eating healthy the more I wish to be vegetarian. I also like to point out that I am very active( physically), I regularly run ( couple of miles a day) and work with weights. My big concern is will the vegetarian food meet my nutritional needs?  I am looking for inputs from our vegetarian friends. Are there any vegetarian in sajha who don't even eat milk products?  Your sincere inputs are highly appreciated.

Peace
Bodmas.

I've been vegetarian for 11+ years, and never noticed any nutritional issues. I do think milk is important. There are meat substitudes like veggie burgars, veggie hotdog, and lot more, check boca and morning farm products available at walmart and other groccery stores. One thing for sure, one gets tempted to enjoy non veg products especially when you go out to eat; so you really need to be determined and discipline to stay vegetarian. Peace

I have been a vegetarian for 11+ years now. I do run most of the days (almost 3 miles), do biceps curls and push ups. I count the carbs I eat.....meaning I have a special bowl...which is almost 1 cup...I fill that up with rice and that is all rice I eat in a day......I also count my protein....I have  another bowl ...which is almost 2 cups...I eat 1 bowl of daal or geda gudi every day......Breakfast is just fruits....at lunch I eat salad which has a good portion of broccoli (40% protein)...also I eat cottage cheese fat free with pineapple as a lunch desert.....which has around 20 grams of protein..........Minimum amount of fat in the tarkari that i eat.....this way i get a few grams of fat as well...............this is how i have been maintaining my carbs, protein, fats and fiber........i do have my blood checked every six months....guess what....I am healthier than the doctor :)

Most American restaurants have vegetarian menus.....red robin substitutes any burger with garden or boca patty.....chinese restaurants have tofu and broccoli which has good portion of protein.....italian have pasta which has more carbs than protein....worst are the indian restaurant....only fat and carbs is served.............mexican restaurants also have vegetarian section in the menu...........so I have no plans to start eating meat or fish..........

Also it is getting easier to be a vegetarian now a day compared to 10 years back.

30+, vegeterian since birth.  I don't lift weights but do jogging. Didn't have any problems. I consume milk, cheese and either daal or beans everyday.
