Hello:

A friend of mine who came here in a F1 visa 8 years ago has a expired visa. Surprisinly, his status has not been updated in SEVIS. He could not finish school because of financial constraint. But he is going to Nepal for good. He is travelling by American Airlines via Paris in December. Does he need to have a transit visa for Paris (12 hours lay over)? Will he be allowed to leave US airport (Dallas) without valid US visa? please advise us. I heard that for LONDON travellers need valid US visa, I don't know for Paris.

Please tell us where could we find credible information about visa requirement?

Thanks Danphe. I hope so too. but as I mentioned his case may be different from yours. He is not in legal status his visa and 1-20 both expired. He could not renew extend those in the US. He just want to have a peace of mind when he travels to Nepal

Would you or others please provide me some credible source for this that he will not require transit visa. he will like to print that and take with him when he travels.

Anybody who travelled via Paris please suggest.

It is a very tricky situation for your friend.

Nepalese don't need any transit visa for Schengen states, if we don't have another stopover in another Schengen state.

If he is not changing airports between Paris-Roissy and Paris-Orly he shouldn't need any transit visa.

BUT as his visa has expired, he should call the nearest French consulate and gather the required information.

Indians and Pakis need transit visa if  US visa stamped in their passport is no more valid. But we were exempted from transit visa in the first place, so imo most probably your friend is not going to need the visa.
