Are there any places in Nepal to take CFA classes? I heard there is a 3 month CFA class in India that prepares you for the level 1 exam. Do we have something like that in nepal as well? I am in the US doing my undergrad right now and I am interested in going back to Nepal to take the test.

Anybody know anything about this?

good for u..cfa level 1 is usually done in 4th year.

as for writing the exam ask some of ur professor if they can sponsor u (give scholorship) for the exam as professor who have cfa title can do this...ur exam fee will be heavily minimized.

also instead of taking classes, the level 1 is self-study..just buy some of the kaplan books or online notes (chek website) and practice every day and u will be fine

what kind of field/job do u want to go after graduation?

Does anyone in sajha have a CFA certification or working towards it?

What are the possible career opportunities for international students (working towards CFA) besides Security Analyst or Investment Analyst?

I know CFA and CPA are two different things, but which one is more worth it from international students (who is working towards it) perspective in getting a job?

I have the CFA designation. You are right - CFA and CPA are different. Obviously, it depends on your career goals as to which one you wish to pursue. CFA designation is very well regarded in finance industry, especially in investment management, investment banking, commercial banking etc. I have seen software developers with this designation and it makes it easier for them to get jobs related to finance. Just a word of caution. It is a long commitment - 3 years to be exact. But it does make a big difference to your resume...

Hey MillionDollars, I'm currently pursuing my MBA and planning to complete atleast level 1 exam for either CFA or CPA before the graduation. But haven't been able to decide which one would suit more to my personality. I am comfortable with both accounting and finance; and can shift to either. Since you have the real world exeperience with CFA, which one would you recommend - CFA or CPA? I know the requirements of CPA, if I decide to go for CPA, I can extra classes. Both are tough nuts to crack but am ready to work my ass off to get the designation.

The other day, I was speaking with the VP of finace from ConAgra, who has a CPA designation, he recommend me to go with CFA coz he said most of the companies today are synchronizing their accounting and financing department and relying heavily on the outside accountants for auditing and accounting.

However, the auditing manager at Deloitte N Touche, had the other opinion and suggested me to go for the CPA. Her argument was with CPA degree, you will have more career options and can shift to finance sector if you don't like working in accounting in future, but that's not the case with CFA.

What's your thought on CPA and CFA? Which one would be better for the international students? As I told you, I'm comfortable with both accounting and finance. Just curious, which one stores better future for international students. Looking at the current economy and US market, CPA sounds a more secure option than CFA. What's you thought on this?

Any suggestions or advices will be highly appreciated.
