Don't blame Nepal for Koshi floods, says Lalu

Kantipur Report

KATHMANDU, Sept 4 - Indian Union Minister for Railways Lalu Prasad Yadav has said that Nepal is not responsible for the floods in Bihar following the deluge in Saptakoshi River.

"Nepal did not release water which caused the flood. It was the state government's negligence which caused the misery," he said on Wednesday, the Economic Times website reported.

In the backdrop of media reports that Nepal released thousands of cusecs of water in the River, Lalu said the state was unprepared to tackle the flood which caused devastation in catchment areas.

Lalu also informed that he will make an aerial visit of the areas in Nepal where the Saptaksohi River has breached the embankments.

On his reported visit to Nepal, he said he would make a courtesy call to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal as he has no "authorisation to take up the issue with him."

The Indian Railways Minister is leaving for the capital today to consult on the relief and resettlement of Koshi flood victims of both Nepal and India, according to his press advisor Munawar ussain.
