If I am not mistaken iPhone still works under the GSM technology. as you pointed out its a Quadband. It will work in Nepal ( kathmandu) It will Roam using ATT services. As of this point you cannot unlock iPhone to Run Under nepal Telecom Towers.

Regarding the second, the iPhone does have a Sim Card.

P.S The roaming charges, if not locked its $ 3.49/ Minute.

Nope iphone will not work in nepal right now coz its locked to work with cingular and yes it has a place to put a sim card. The iphone crackers are very close to unlocking the phone to work with other cell provider just watch out on the net. Just be careful if you find scripts like that and screw it up you may loose your warrant or just brick your phone.

Just wait for gen 2 of iphone with 3G, EDGE is not worth the internet

Cell phone providers in USA lock the SIM to hook customers from leaving their company. Few years b4, they had another hook called LNP, which FCC took it away.

Anyways soon hackers will come out with ways to unlock SIM ... the PUK code.

Check the Chinese iPhone:

For right now the iPhone will work in Nepal with ATT Roaming service which is too expensive. If you are thinking of going to Nepal with the iPhone and inserting Nepal telecom SIM inside the iPhone, it will not work.

iPhone will be released in Europe around Nov - Dec 2007 and will hit the Asian market first quarter of 2008.

Do not worry about unlocking the code. The cell techology is much better than here. I got this imprssion as they unlocked my cell phone and used during my stay. I did not bring it back and not sure what happens when you bring it back, I am pretty sure they have right answer and solution for you.

NayaSadak ... you got your cell phone unlocked in Ktm because your cell phone had been out in the market for a while. A hot new product like iPhone, unlocking in Nepal will have to wait for a while.

Hacking a cell phone vs. cell technology being better in Nepal, are two different things. Also Nepal started late in the game & being a small country, don't need as many cell towers.
