Mr. Soktim

After reading your two cents worth I came to understand how little you really know about the real world.

I first attended a very small and unknown college and worked 60 hours+ at a gas station. I maintained my G.P.A and managed to get into what you call "FIRST TIER" college. I have graduated and consider myself very fortunate to have the job that I have. On the other hand, I have not forgotten my roots and appreciation for hardworking Nepali students.

If I am not wrong you have not graduated yet, so let me give you some advice. When you live in America it really does not matter if you go to a "First" tier college or a "Fourth" tier college unless you attend Universities like Harvard, Princeton, Yale... Don't be so proud of your scholarship because that does not give you the credential to get a job ...what matters is your ability to perform and how you expose yourself to the world. Thats not all...you need LUCK and lots of it.

As for your comments about working Nepali students...what are you against? If you are satisfied with working 20 hrs a week so be it. But if other people want to work more and want more out of life than you, then let it be. At the end of the day it does not matter which University you attended or how high your GPA is...what matters is how much MONEY you have. It does not matter if you earned your money legally or illegally. If you have money you can have everything...from American citizenship to whatever you desire.

It sounds as if you are very frustrated with your life...I mean anyone would be...making the minimum wage...no savings...having no money to buy what other students may own like...cars ...And in America having no money means you ain't got a honey.
I truly feel sorry for you...so don't be so proud of your scholarship! First learn to be PROUD of being NEPALI...and don't tell us you don't understand Nepali (referring to a prior thread) how long have you been here? 3yrs...5 yrs...10 yrs????...you certainly were not born here. American born Nepalese are not interested about how much Nepali students work. Learn to be respectful and only then will be be respected. Try to learn to be modest... (SOKTIM AFNO GOON AFAILE GAKO RAMRO HUDAINA..)

This is how I feel about SOKTIM ...he is so proud to be in America that he forgot he spent 90% of his life in Nepal. He is what we call..."NAPAUNE LE PAYO, BOKRA SAMET KHAYO"
So what do all of our Nepali brothers working at Gas Stations think about Soktim? Do write...

Dude your comments are good but somewhat illogical.
for instance,,

" It does not matter if you earned your money legally or illegally. If you have money you can have everything...from American citizenship to whatever you desire. "
Should i presume that you are ready to murder someone. Thats illegal though it wont matter for you right?
let peace prevail

Like most of the Nepalese in the U.S., I did have all the luxuries that I wanted to. My own T.V. , Motorbike, PC, Pocket money and I always got anything I wanted! But then I wanted some change, the want of living an American life. I came here in Spring '05 and have been through the difficulties and hard work that I'd have never dreamt of while living back home. Lets face it, Living in America is tough job, regardless of your parents income/financial status, you won't be happy to spend your parents hard earned money on your schooling coz you seriously do realize the coversion rate between a Nepali rupee in Nepal and the U.S. dollars is ridiculous. We could've finished our Undergrads for spending less than 7000 dollars even if we were attending the most prestigious university back home, but like many of us, I said to myself, what then? Sometimes I do regret my decision to come to the U.S. and wish that I focused on my studies. Perhaps I should've done that, that way I could've gotton to play cricket all day long, watched it all night long and then played and watched all the live matches all the time that it'd be on. Then there's snooker and a list of fun that I could've had if I'd have stayed back home but I've already arrived here. Here I am, working my arse off during the summer, working during the school year, working on studies and trying to have fun whenever I can. Of course it isn't as easy as it sounds. I clearly do remember working for 19 hours on certain days while I was in Ocean city in my first summer in the United States. Even till this day, the days that I spent in Ocean city send me chills through my spine!
I can relate my situation with all the Nepalese living in Texas or anywhere in the United States who're working their arses off to pay for college. Few of my friends go to Community Colleges in Texas, work over 60 hrs a week, not by choice but by the need! One of them scored 88 percent in SLC , 79 percent in I.SC. and had a Cumulitive GPA of 4.0 in the first two semesters, but his financial difficulties meant that he had to transfer in order to a community college. He couldn't stay at the same area as he wouldn't get to work there as he wouldn't have a working permit plus he didn't have any friends at the area that he worked as well and hence he was forced to transfer to Texas. He works over 70 hours a week now and goes to school. His GPA's have falled, he's not scoring A's anymore but B's and C plusses. But just think about how tough it would be to work over 60 hrs a week and go to school! That's freaking scary indeed. As for myself, I pay over 10000 dollars for college plus personal expenses and books and personal expenses take the costs up to over 140000 dollars per year. I do work my arse off and try to pay for it myself, but that isn't sufficient hence I have no way to look upto except knock on my parents door! It doesn't mean that they're happy or I feel happy too, but it gives me a priviledge of looking up to them when I'd be in financial difficulties. Unlike me, there must be tons of Nepalese in Texas who don't have the same priviledges but they're doing it on their own! Isn't that remarkable indeed? They're all pursuing the dream of an American dream with a good degree and good job in future and I'm sure that most of them will be able to achieve it.
Soktim, take a chill pill if you're bragging about your scholarships and all the shitty stuffs. Rapid has already explained how big do your GPA's and your scholarships count as long as you're not attending an IVY league school. Even if you were attending one of the elite schools in the states, think twice before slamming any Nepalese working at gas stations. Trust me dude, your comments have outraged all the Nepalese who read them! So it'd be better if you shut your f'kin mouth!
and SA54, what's up with your Let peace prevail thingie? I've been watching you posting in many threads trying to be a sadhu santa! Your reply on Rapid's post are irrelevant to what he was implying! He wasn't talking about murdering someone! He was talking about making some money to survive and "hang in there" until the Nepalese working at Gas Stations will be well off! Don't disgrace us with your nonsense comments! I take it that you were slammed in other posts by other Nepalese as well, isn't that so?

well said Rapid and BalBhadra. Agree with u all the way. I guess Soktim and SA54 are really new in America(Fresh Off the Boat). They haven't faced the reality yet. And they are too naive to think that getting a scholarship at some prestigious colleges will land them to a great career. That only happens in movies and novels. let me tell u two noobs. In the real world, they don't care about u'r achieventments that shine in u'r transcripts. they ask for the experiences straight out.Besides, working at a gas station is a job, a way to stand up on your own feet, not u'r parents. u shouldn't be disgraced or embaressed by the Nepalese who work at the gas stations, but people like u'r selves who tend to throw dirt on "swavimani" nepalese and pull their legs. Grow up!have some responsibilities!if u don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. with u'r mouth running like that, u'r looking for serious trouble.

Hey guys .....I think sa54 and Soktim are same people or frens.....I been talking with them abt this matter from more than last 1 week..

What I dont understand is.....people who got scholarship thats fine....but people who didnt got scholarship or loosed there scholarship haru le 50-60 hrs kaam garera afno tution fee tirda tyo Soktim lai ke problem...

Did u guys read his coments in "Nepali Student worker"...He clearly said that he felt emabarssed seeing other nepalis tudent working????I dont see the point...And othe coments he made on those students on the same thread and other thread such as "Soktim" et all, I couldn't convince my brain that he was a nepali not an Indian....

I asked this question many times to Soktim and sa54...they didnt answer me....Let me ask them one more time...I hope they will response me.....

Isnt working 40-50 hours and paying there tuion a best idea rather than staying in Nepal with fraustration (all the frens going abroad and they not getting VISA), spending parents income....and all....There are uncountble points...

And another question to soktim and sa54...If you think so ( as in ur other thread) why dont u set exaple going back to Nepal reading there and working there MR.sa 54...Why are u running after $$$rather than working in nepal living with ur family there....I think u need to stop commenting abt nepali student immediately and telling them that they are running after $$$ and all......

I hope i will get the answer now....

yes my friend(rapid) I totally agree with u . any i dont know why defective sperm cells like sa54 and soktim have a problem. its hard to survie in US without a job and even average americans get into finincial difficulties sending their children into good colleges so nepali parents haru ko ta kurrai bhayana....unless if someones father is a ghusiya like that of soktim's dad.

Rapid , you're right.
Sotkim is an arrogant fool. I've seen people like him prolonging their F1 status doing, masters, and Phd and what not.. and finally moving to canada cuz they can't make it here. While students working in gastations get thier papers somehow and even manage to get decent jobs. Everyone who's lived in the usa knows that there is no such thing like fair in this wild wild west.
Sotkim was ashamed first. Now he says, he's deeply concerned about the well being of Nepali students. What a hypomofool....

you guys are real winners here. Rapid and the accomplices are all talking out of their arse, seems like. Also, seems like people here are impregnated with slave mentality. I agree what Soktim had to write about the gas station workers was borderline excessive, but that doesnt mean that he didnt have some points of truth to it. If you want another side of the fence, read on:
When you guys are making money to make ends meet, people like Soktim are making contacts in their fields as they can afford the time to do so. I am sure all of you who are in the real world know how far contacts can take you. Also, scholarships count a lot when one is being hired. There are employers who look at scholarships as a type of income and match or exceed that when they are making an offer. Please dont feel good about yourself for slacking off in your college days thinking that you will catch up overnight with the ones who earned those hard to get scholarships. The bottom line is hard work pays, be it at a school or a gas station; the choice is out there for what type of reward you seek...

It depends what your options are....if someone doesn't have option for scholorship then he's left to work for gastation. Who doesn't wish he had scholorship? Who doesn't want house, beautiful wife , healthier life? Who likes to work in a gastaion, but what one gonna do when he has no option left. People steal , cheat, be desperate , Nepali students work, what is wrong with that?
