Hi friends,
I am in great trouble now. I am working on CPT (curriculum practical training) now and it expires on FEB 2007. I just know this morning that H1b cap is finished for this year and I filed it on 30 May 2006 so I can't get that. Do you have any idea how can I maintain my status till the next h1b opens? Plz help
Thanks

You are fine till next Feb. Then you will have about 2 months of grace period. So you will be arlight till April. But the 6 months that follows from April to October you will have to maintain your status somehow. Probably get an I-20 from a college. I don't know if you will have to officially join it or I-20 will be sufficient. Ask your Advisor

are you sure the quotas are finished? the USCIS site says the total (approved and pending) is around 49,000 on May 25th. 11,000 gone in 5 days? dont think so. plus there are always denial or revoked cases, so you may still have a chance. check here.

Sanjnep, you're not the only one having this problem. You can join school, join Kaplan for few months, or cross your finger for bush to pass something easier for students. They have been talking from extending opt period to increasing the H1b cap. In the mean time you can find a khernee and do AOS also.
