Do you guys have any idea about TUCSON, AZ and its suitability to live. One of my fren is joining University at TUCSON but some guys suggested to join somewhere else, as it is not safest place. What do you think, he has admission to other univeristy in KNOXVILLE, TN too. Where should I suggest him?

TUSCAN is better, that's what I think cause there are lots of immigrants, though mostly Mexicans. So I'm hoping they would be more open to foreighners. And if your buddy looks little bit like Chinese, I think he can eaily get away as Mexican. Add some beard and moustache, BINGO...Viva La Mexico.
KNOXVILLE, TN. Not a good choice. I'm pretty sure it's mostly Red Necks, Trailor Trash and Honkey Tongs with mullets.
Just my opinion.

I have several friends at University of Tennessee, Knoxiville (UTK). I have visited UTK few times. I like that place... I haven't been to Tucson yet, but plan to visit next month. I think UTK is one of the good schools to attend...

Your friend likes football, doen't he? Go Volunteers!!!!

harikancha, Tucson is a very safe place to live. I lived there for 11 years and never had any problems. Of course, if you go around looking for trouble than it may not be safe. But then that is true for any place. University of Arizona is a good school. Live near campus and find work on campus. It gets hot in the summer but for me it was not a big deal.

UA has a diverse student body. I think there are more Indian students than Mexicans. If you are into sports, UA have one of the top college basketball team in the country. You will enjoy cheering for the Cats. Some NBA players that played for UA are Sean Elliott, Steve Kerr, Mike Bibby, Gilbert Arenas, Richard Jefferson, Jason Terry to name a few.

And if you are also into studies, UA has the number one Astronomy department in the country. MIS dept. is in the top five. Good engineering college and so on. Tucson is a beautiful city surounded by mountains. You can go to Old Tucson and check out how and where old western movies were made.

I hope this helps you harikancha in making your decision. Good luck.

I know a Nepali dai in that department. He was one of the many scientists that were inside the Biosphere II conducting many experiments. He headed the agricultural side. I don't know so much about the Biology program but from what I have heard and seen, the department should be a good one. I did attend the UA. Let me know if you need any other info. I would be more than happy to assist you.
