Manju Niraula's article (from Maryland) in Today's Kantipur daily is far more informative than anything I heard here in Sajha.

Thanks Manju.
Keep up the good work.

Yea, and what a surprise, I thought what she wrote was a bunch of bullshits! Who owns Dunkin' Donut or dollar store at what place etc.. Is that so important to published in a major news paper's editorial? I know she skipped so many businessmen, more successful than a laundray shop owners, than it was obvious to me that the article was not a result of some research, but a recollection.

On the other hand, it might be a travesty of the current censorship by Kantipur!

I agree with KanakiRiver. It is just a listing of some people the author probably knows or has heard about(it would have been easier for us to read if she had tabulated the roster). I believe, Nepalese have achieved more than just opening shops and fast food centres. It would have been great if she had listed the addresses of the establishments so that we could avail some discounts at those shops, being Nepali.

Going through her article it can be guessed that,
Manju visited US for 3 weeks once to help her sister Sanju at the time of birth of child. She visited those places during her stay to buy Juwano, Jimmu, Khasiko masu, Jutta for herself, Cosmetics.

On the contrary, the article makes very interesting reading, especially in these
censorship-blanketed times, when hope for a better life is short supply in Nepal
and among Nepalis.

It's heartening to read about Nepali entrepeneurs/business people in the US who
are doing something/taking risks to take charge of their own lives -- whether by
running restaurants that sell naan and chicken tikka or shops that sell Nepali
handicrafts.

Most positively ambitious people aspire to run their own business (or show) -- successfully, and it's great to see that ambitions for better life through hard work
are alive and well in Nepalis and going well for them.

Manju, whom I don't know, deserves thanks and appreciation -- and NOT derision.

After all, it's stories like this today (chronicles of immigrants' success in managing small
businesses) that someday lead us to other stories about how other Nepalis are running global companies.

I would be glad to hear Ashuji running a successful global company instead of running a sajha thread changing his analysis in every postings. well wisher,
bullshit

For all you ambitious people:

Ambition makes you look ugly.

I didn't say that. Thom did.
