According to KTM Post news, "Govt shuts down Dalai Lama?s office in Kathmandu."

KATHMANDU, Jan 27 - In an inexplicable move, the government shut down the office of the Dalai Lama?s Representative in Nepal as well as the Tibetan Refugee Welfare office in the capital last Friday and has remained tight-lipped over the issue.Government officials confirmed the shutdown order but declined to give any details...............

Does it make any difference to us in international arena even though Tibetans have been fairly peaceful citizen of the world.

Around last year, abt 17 tibetan refugees were extradited to China by Nepalese officials which prompted some Nepal-favouring US senator to delay a proposal to create favorable environment for Nepali garmetn export.

I would not be surprised if similar repercussions follow this time too.

Nepal govt. did not violate any ANY international conventions by shutting down the Tibetan office in kathmandu, because HMG does not recognize Tibetan governmnet in exile at all. And it's under our jurisdiction to close the offices of organziations/entities that we do not recognize. Furthermore, thsoe offices were opened without getting all the required permits from the Ministry of Foreign Afairs. If tomorrow IRA, LTTE, PLA comes to Nepal and open their offices, the governmnet will have to close those down too. Its not a big deal. I mean, if the governmnet had shut down a PLA office, would the British Embassy and others be "regretting" it? Think about it.

This decision is a bit tricky. Actually, its like a slap on the face of people of all tibeto-burmo origin. It?s the Nepalese bureaucrats of Indian origin who made this decision and so they would rely on every possible international laws and jurisdictions to oust the Tibetan presence in the hindu kingdom. However, there have been pressures from the Chinese communist authorities as wel to shut down these offices... It is like Nepal in a situation between rock and a hard palace.

isolated-freak bro,
i was curious as to why you lumped the tibetan office in ktm into a group consisting of the ltte, pla and the ira. these organizations have been widely recognized as being directly or indirectly connected to extremist terrorist groups, approve of the use of violence and arms to neccesitate means, and use random public disruption and death to bring notice to their cause.
i respect your opinions, and somewhere earlier i had read ,where you had posted along the lines of, one mans freedom fighter being anothers terrorist..or something to that effect.
so in essence people who share the views of the ltte or the ira would be able to prove the justification of their actions, if one was bothered to listen.
speaking for myself, i abhor violence.
which is why i have always admired the tibetan government and their stance in a world that basically proves time and again that might is right...and of an an eye must be taken for an eye..

it therefore seems out of place to describe an organization that has gone out of its way, NOT to use violence to achieve their means( fighter or terrorist thus being out of the question) as being similar to any of the mentioned names.

we do not recognize the tibetan govt in exile... thats plain and clear to see.
and like you mentioned we can claim the validity of their existence in nepal, ie the lack
of proper permits..etc

however, lumping a country's representative,( a country that we once shared borders with, traded with, have ethnographical, cultural and religious ties with) as being akin to
distant, foreign militaristic organizations in far flung areas like europe, the middle east and sri lanka did not make sense to me.
and a blemish on the millions of souls that have died...in the name of non violence and ahimsa.
Buddham saranam gacchami
think about it. :)
