Rajmani - the answer to your question is not straight forward as saving depends on so many variables. In general, simple the lifestyle more saving will be. Saving is also an art. It has to be practiced. A married man may have hard time saving because of family responsibilities. Wives usually are notorious on spending money. More children you have more expenses will be.

I recommend you start keeping track of your expenses on an excel spreadsheet. Calculate monthly expenses and your income. See where you can cut down your unnecessary expenses, for example, check your impulse buy and see if you can cut down on it. Also, start thinking about investing on bonds or stocks.

Saving is about financial planning. It takes time, planning, habit, and a strong will to save.

Impulse buying and eating outside are some of the things I think we should minimize in order to save.

It depends on how you manage. I do save about $2500 a month.
I have mortgage of $350,000. I do have two kids.

If you really want to save you can save on everything.

A penny saved is a penny earned.

Save on toilet paper, paper towel, water, electricity, food coupons. Stop using credit cards.
