Let your DSO know only if you are planning on using your EAD. Also if you are considering taking less credits, or working more than 20 hours (under new relief benefits released on 11/09/2015), you should have your SEVIS updated accordingly.

Thanks BioMed.

I spoke to my DSO. He has no idea regarding TPS/EAD. So what update does he have to make in my SEVIS that allows me to work more than 20 hrs??

Regarding new relief benefits released on 11/09/2015. It states that one has to be lawfully present in F1 status from April 25, 2015.
In my case, i changed my Visa from H4 to F1 on september 2015.

Wish I could share my own experience with you. One thing I know for sure is our DSO follows this site for immigration updates. http://www.nafsa.org/Content.aspx?id=50551. Hope that helps him decide what to write :)

my college DSO has updated my i20 with an info-"Student has been authorized to work with alien #xxxxxxxx valid from xxx-xxx based on Temporary Protected Status for Nepal." This was mentioned on Remarks section of i20. And when my DSO and I go through my SEVIS, he tried to entered employment valid date from 8/19-12/24 based on TPS EAD; however, the system of ice SEVIS does not authorize for more than ONE YEAR so he entered valid date based on my last date of my semester and then the system accepts it. I think that if the information is written clearly on SEVIS i20 then it won't be any issue in near future. One more thing on next semester, I am taking only two courses as spring will be my last which makes me eligible for reduced course load as per DSO. Let's see what is going to happen in near future.

Why are we worried about this ? You do not need to inform you DSO at all. maintain your F1 status thats it.

Guys,
This is for all F1-Students.. Just to be in safe side. Please go through this link BioMed had posted https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2015/11/09/2015-28360/employment-authorization-for-nepali-f-1-students-experiencing-severe-economic-hardship-as-a-direct?utm_campaign=subscription+mailing+list&utm_medium=email&utm_source=federalregister.gov

here it says

How does a student who has received approval for employment authorization under TPS then apply for authorization to take a reduced course load under this notice?

There is no further application process. The student only needs to demonstrate to the DSO the economic hardship caused by the damage caused by the April 25, 2015 earthquake in Nepal and receive the DSO recommendation in SEVIS. The DSO's recommendation in SEVIS will enable the student with TPS to reduce his or her course load without violating his or her F status. USCIS will not issue any other EAD.

Since this information is legit.
I guess its better to get DSO's recommendation in SEVIS.

Hope this clears all the doubts F1-students have.
