Hello folks,

I recently got married in Nepal. My wife and I want to change her last name to mine. Now, she already has a nepalese citizenship and other school/college certificates with her maiden name. Is it possible to change the last name in those documents? If anyone went through this, please share your experience. Also, we are applying for her Nepalese passport soon. Can we change the last name in the passport? If posssible we don't want the hyphenated last name with both mine and her maiden name. Help out fellow nepalis.

My wife changed her last name after getting married. She kept her maiden name and added my Last name as well.
You don't have to change any of your certificates if they were before changing the last name.

She made new Nepali citizenship as well as new passport before going US Embassy for stamping.

Hmm interesting!!!!
Well, nothing new though...This is our culture for girls to acquire husbands last name.

Just wondering: Instead of girls having to change their identity, do boys have balls to change lastnames, too? Or something in the middle, like Thapa-Bhandari.

@altijdgoede I don't know when or how it started to  change  girls last name after marriage; but it's just not our culture. Every culture that I know of changes girls' last name to guys' last name.

And also to answer your question no I wouldn't not change my last name to girl's last name and also I wouldn't care if my partner didn't change her last name after getting married. Hell i wouldn't even care if she wanted kids to have her last name.

I've seen some girls not change their last names after marriage. Guys married to these kind of girls will be henpecked all their lives.

pretentious is the word for altijdgoede.
he finds the topic interesting: were you born in mars?
are you changing your last name to your wife's last name?
even in western countries women take up the last name of their husband.
