Kathmandu: With King Gyanendra's absolute rule having ended in Nepal, demands are being made for a fresh probe into a 25-year-old triple rape and murder case in which influential royal relatives came under suspicion.

Nepal had been shaken by the brutal rape and murder of three students whose killers were never brought to justice.

Known as the infamous "Namita-Sunita hatyakando (Murder of Namita and Sunita)", the incident also included two more killings, says Kishor Shrestha, editor of Jana Aastha weekly, who as a cub journalist in 1991 began investigating the murders and this month published a book on his findings.

The book titled Darbarkando Pachhi Dabayeko Arko Hatyakando (Another Murder Case Suppressed After the Royal Palace Massacre) was released on May 1.

Namita and Sunita Bhandari were sisters who came from a well-connected family in Kathmandu.

In the 1980s, the two sisters and a friend, Neera Parajuli, went for a holiday to Pokhara, a popular tourist destination. The bodies of all three girls were found in the Gandaki River in Pokhara.

Influential people

"An employee of the forest department, Churamani Adhikari, was a witness," says Shrestha. "He was taken to the police station for questioning. The next day, he too was dead."

Four influential people came under suspicion: Prince Dhirendra, younger brother of slain king Birendra and present King Gyanendra; Uday Shumsher, brother of Komal, Gyanendra's wife and the present queen; Neer Shah, a well known film director and actor related to the royal family by marriage, and Binod Shankar Shrestha, owner of an upmarket hotel in Kathmandu.

"In June 2001, King Birendra and his family were massacred in the palace and Gyanendra was sworn in as the new king," says Shrestha. "Just 10 days after his ascension, police authorities were asked to close the case and began dragging their feet on the investigation. The case was closed inconclusively in 2003."

Shrestha said about two months ago he came across police documents and the diary of one of the sisters and decided to write a book.

How these girls were killed? Based on story told to me by the daughter of SP in Pokhara (her father told her. She told her friend that her father was harassed by people above him and royal army at that time, to make sure that nothing goes out.)

In Summer of early 1980s, two sisters Namita Sunita Parajuli ride a bus to Pokhara. Unfortunately, the same bus had a group of pampered group of adults in early 20s who also headed for Pokhara. They teased these girls throughout the trip. In early 1980s, Pokhara was not crowded as it is today. Everyone in the town knew each other, at least, they could identify who is new in the town. Thus, these new young girls were easy pray for the powerful particularly in Army Camp. Army Camp in Nepal were notorious and the land price around Army Camp were always the cheapest, and same was in Pokhara. No one wanted to live around Army Camp. Thus, the north of Pokhara Army Camp was empty, and was a furtile ground for bad biz, rape, prostitution, and drugs. No people from Pokhara would let their daughters walk alone through that path even in broad day light.

Namita Sunita with a relative in Bindha-basini went to Seti bagar, south of PN Campus. They were having fun in the bagar. In east side of MahendraPul had Nepal Army Camp (heavily crowded).

Unfortunately, Neera led Namita and Sunita to walk through the deadly corridor and reach the wrong place: seti river bagar. Suddenly (allegedly, Neera has whisked these boys) the boys appear in the bagar. They start teasing them. They grab these sisters. Younger one (Namita?) starts shouting and crying. Then, she was slapped to shut her mouth up. The situation escalates. They rape all three girls [Neera was also killed in the same spot, even though, there are conflicting stories of her being a middle woman]. They kill all these girls. Drop their body in the river. They assumed file closed.

A few days later, bodies arrive in Ram Ghat. Early morning devotees find naked girls in the bank of Seti. The news was viral. Thousands arrive at the scene. Namita-Sunita were identified. Then, prize was announce for clue (but it was a ploy to remove witnesses). The poor banpale reports seeing the event of rape in full motion. The banpale was locked down. Then, he was released right on the bridge, and asked to jump. Radio Nepal reports he committed a suicide. Why would a witness suicide? Then, the government offers their father a promotion in National Trading or wherever he worked. The family never opened their mouth because of fear, and I doubt they would dare to open even now if they are still alive.

Many other people were rounded. Some even called from India for any hints they offered on those guys.

Royal Army: these boys were in army camp. Neer Shah was one of the target pimp in this case. I don’t know whether he was there. Even if he was not there, he know who were there for sure. Dhirendra was not there because he was really out country. Dhirendra was lucky not to be in the list because he was out of country. If you would like to sort out the list, it is not a big deal. Find who was the head of the army camp in Pokhara at that time. These boys were in 20s and they were in large number: 5-6. Now, they must be in 50-55.

AT the same time around, two young marwari boy and girls were also killed nearby army camp. The girl did not have underwear. They were on run because they were in love. there were living in Mandar hotel, and later killed.

Pokhara got bad name, unfortunately.

Albeit this is sort of out of context ( I firmly believe that if the accusations are true, the alleged rapists should be punished), how credible is mysansar? I visited the website for the first time today, and it did not look completely legit to me. Again, I may be wrong.

Actually, nvm, after I posted my earlier comment, I saw that the website is a blog and not a news site. I guess that answers my question.
