- Go to ESL classes ASAP if you are not here as a student and learn proper American etiquettes.
- However way, start a bank account immediately and sign up for a credit card at your earliest
- Before you curse economy for paying $80 for a brief, make sure dollar stores are around your area,  you'll save up and shop there for your small items like stationeries and other stuffs. Look out for ROSS for cheap clothing and such. There always is an alternative.
- Most importantly, don't fall sick in this country, maintain good health.

IF YOU ARE HERE AS A STUDENT FOCUS ON FINISHING YOUR STUDY AS EARLIEST AS POSSIBLE--- DONT RUN AFTER HOURS IN GAS STATION--THAT WILL LEAD YOU TO NOWHERE---BEFORE COMPLETING STUDY DONT EVEN THINK OF MONEY. DONT BUY EXPENSIVE CAR IF YOU HAVE TO BUY A CAR--$ 10,000 car = 2 SEMESTER FEE.

AVERAGE INCOME AT GAS STATION=2300*12(MONTHS)*5(YEARS)=138000. This is an average income for a gas station worker for 5 years considering 365 days, 70 hours per week work.
After completing your study you can earn this amount in 2 AND 1/2 years working 40 HRS PER WEEK, 5 days a week. This is the amount considered after tax.

DO THE MATH.

Speak English the way you feel comfortable. Don't try to imitate American accent. You will sound funnier. Be known that every kind of accents are spoken and understood here.

 Dos:
1. Buy old and reliable car. Don't run after fancy car.
2. Try to study really good, this will help you after you find a job after you graduate.
3. Try to watch how American pronounce and play with certain words, that might help a lot to understand their jokes and cultural talks.
4. Always be in touch with your real friends. It is really hard to make real good friends in this country and its easy to lose them. People often lose them by making being busy as an excuse. Its tough to get that friendship back once ignorance has played it's part. You need good friends the first, when you need help.
5. Always try to improve your skills, when you have time. For example, be expert in excel if you allowed a laptop in gas station, you got an idea.
6. Never feel lonely, that totally destroyes you.

Don't:
1.  Don't spend all your money towards your girlfriend/boyfriend, because there is high chances that you might not get married with a same person.
2.   Never get offended by American's individualist behaviour. For example, they might talk to you really good one day and totally ignore you the next day. It's not personal, thats how they were raised.
3. Never say everything about yourself to be friendly. That bites back.
4. Never show your weakness at workplace to be friendly or open.

These are few things that I learned.

1. Get in touch with Nepali seniors at your school/work and ask for suggestions when in doubt. Most likely, they've been through that situation and their experience might come handy to you.

2. But be aware, I've seen folks giving wrong advice to juniors. There are people who had hard time getting past situation "X" and want you to have the same bad (or even worse) experience. Stay away from those selfish SOBs.

3. NEVER lend your hard earned/saved money to anyone, especially to a Nepali. You're lucky if you get even a fraction of it back.

4. If you're a student, buy used books - 1-2 edition older books will save you tons and won't make difference in your grades. Or, download pdfs - not legal though.

5. च्याप्यो भन्दैमा रुख/पर्खाल देख्ने बित्तिकै तुर्क्याउने काम चाँही नगर्नु, रंगेहात पक्रेला नि!

All the abovementioned points are excellent. I wholeheartly agree with nepal-hamro.  I was open with my colleagues and told them some of my weakness at workplace.  That was my blunder.  I will add a few:

- If you are 21+ and you have frens below 21, don't let them drink at your apartment/house.
- Be on time
- Dress professionally at work.  Americans do closely watch your appearance even though they say they don't care.

 Don'ts:

1. Do not download music.
2. Do not watch or possess child porn. No beastility! No Zoophilia!
3. Do not have physical relationship with a minor. Even if they say they're willing to do it. Stay away!!!
4. Do not go to chat rooms and try to seduce people and try to meet them to get laid.
5. Do not broadcast your private part on webcam over the internet.

Dos:

1. Do take my don'ts seriously!

Rali was kidding about download music.
If u carry android download music bay for free music .
For me
Do:
1) visit sajha
2) dont work for dhoti
3) you are individual here , dont think about anyone
4) check professor rating before you take classes ( if you want to go school)
Dont
1) visit mysansar
2) date minors even online
3) drink and drive. This might lead you to jail
4) open secrets about working permits /gc to any khaires. ; they are not even of their fathers

If you want better life DONT come to NEW YORK (I am in NYC) ; go other states like kansas, oklahoma, texas.

hey everestpep,
They've wiki on everything.
here is dollar store wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dollar_Tree
Their website sucks, don't go for that and visit the store personally, look for the big one, buy all stationeries(they've whole lot of things besides that). I was shocked to see that same pen holder cost me there for 1 buck while OfficeMax charged me 9 bucks plus taxes.

Due to added hormones in food and livestock, here ppl look bigger and older for their age. 19 years may look like 30 and 14 years may look like 20. If you ever date anyone, make sure she is not underage. And, most American women lie quiet often. Keep yourself safe.

"Most American women lie quite often" - whoa, stereotyping much? I guess one thing you shouldn't do is believe blanket statements like these. I went to a college with no Nepali students, and made a lot of American friends (many of which were girls). People here have different personalities, and the culture here is different, but negative pre-concieved notions won't make your transition any better.
