HeNN spends every single penny it receives on the projects it undertakes. This is made possible by having a separate Administrative Endowment Fund created with the help of over two dozen generous Nepali donors to cover the running cost of its small office in Kathmandu as well as other administrative expenses. All executive committee members and coordinators working in the many different chapters are volunteers.
HeNN embraces 'Practical Philanthropy' whereby every relatively able individual contributes a small portion of their earnings for the benefit of those who genuinely need support. It promotes a habit of giving, which will not hamper an individual's normal life but still will benefit disadvantaged communities. For example, Nepalis abroad are encouraged to "have a can of beer or a carton of juice less in a month and donate the savings to the fund", whereas Nepalis at home to "have a plate of momo or a few cups of tea less in a month and donate the savings to the fund."
With small and large contributions from the Nepalese and well wishers, HeNN has built more than 40 libraries, repaired or constructed more than 40 schools, set up a health post in the remote area of Mugu and another health post in Siraha. HeNN is on the verge of running an orphanage for forty children in Dhulikhel on the outskirts of Kathmandu, once the funding for three years is secured. It has conducted numerous health camps for the unprivileged Nepalese, apart from providing relief material to natural calamities and disasters.
In the beginning of July, HeNN initiated an ambitious plan of setting up Rs 100m Charitable Endowment Fund from Nepalis living around the world and from the interest gained, HeNN hopes to be able to support maximum possible number of genuinely needy projects. HeNN has already raised Rs 3.5 million for the Fund. With the evidence of what HeNN has achieved, HeNN expects more hard working and generous Nepalis willing to help less privileged fellow Nepalis to come forward and help achieve their dreams of prosperous Nepal.
