They are giving the visa but not easily. In most cases they hold your visa(passport) for 2 to 3 weeks before issuing visa.

Don't take a chance unless you have to.I was there for three weeks and I had intereview on the day after I reached there and got my visa the day before I left to USA. It is really stressful.

If you need to do that make sure you make appointment while you are here so that you can have the interview as soon as you reach there.

I am not sure, what they saw in my document, they gave me the visa same day. My H1B was approved back in 2009, so that might be the reason that my name was updated in PIMS. Email to US consular in Nepal, to check, if your name is updated in PIMS or not, if your H1B is recently approved.

I went back to Nepal before Dashain, and I was granted visa just before the Dashain holiday. Its a good idea to get the interview-date as early as possible.

 Shashin,

I think It also depends on how you obtained your H1B - through a direct hire/client like direct hire at a company or hospital or through a third party employment like consultancy among other things - but seems like this is one of the main important aspect.

Like someone suggested, email the consular and get an idea. Ask your question in a short but definitive manner.

@shashin: I'm going for stamping coming week and have a interview for next week.

I have tried to get an interview before 2 week  but seems like they will only give you visa date only before 1 week of your interview date and you also don't need to be there as you can schedule interview with your confirmation application and passport photocopy.

Difficulty of getting a visa depends upon type of employee. Are you a contractor employee from consultancy or FTE?

If you are a FTE, you will get your visa second day or another. Make sure you are updated in PIMS database.

If you are a contractor, be prepared to wait for few weeks to 1 month.

However, if you have all the docs and convincing answers, you should be good for both.

Hope that helps !

Peace

I am FTE and got my H1b stamped on last week of September this year. It took few (5-7) minutes, no major questiton asked... only inquired about my job location and start date (as my location is different than Company HQ, where it's HR is based).

I prepared following documents for the interview

1. Passport
2. All previous I-20s
3. EAD card(s)
4. Copy of H1B approval packet petition
5. Original degree certificate(s) and transcript (s)
6. Employment verification letter
7. Company's latest annual report publication
8. Updated resume
9. 2-3 payroll statements and previous year tax documents,
10. Original I-797

Best of Luck
