Well there are few nepalese organization which are mostly opened for Nepali community within certain US cities but once in a while they do donation drive/scholarship events for students around different places of nepal . I usually donate through them and force them to get the money in right place for right person .

Yes I do, as a volunteer.
Empower Nepali Girl (ENG):
      - focused on girl's education, initiated by Prof. Jeffery Kottler, California State University, Fullerton,CA,my graduate school too
      - Inu Pariyar, the first girl to recieve support n saved from being sex slaves, she is studying at Rangsit university, Thailand. Recently
two other girls joined her at the same university who were also supported by this org. from school level to higher studies.
     - provides stationary, uniform, study material to the needy girls (this year target is to support for 150 girls) n even assists paying                   tuition fees n help them to study whatever they want
     - for more info  http://empowernepaligirls.org/wordpress/
N
amaste Nepal Helping Himalayan Children(NNHHC)
     - sister organization of Empower Nepali Girl, initiated by adjunct Pro. Heather Guay at the same university n Digumber Piya(Nepal)
     - build public library, kind of learning center where children can read n play, so far two library, Bandipur, Saranpur(Chitwan)
     - we do fundraising dinner, fundraising yoga, participate in marathon, garage sale etc.
     - I personally went to both library this summer break
     - for more info http://www.namastenepal.org/
H
elp Nepal Network
     - build library n healthpost in remote places
     - run by Rabindra Mishra, Head of the BBC Nepali sewa
     - I m helping them for "one dollar a month" fund as a donar
     - more info http://www.helpnepal.net/
Last but not the least
Aama ko Ghar( which i recommend the most)
      - a real home for those mother who r neglected n dumped to the street by their so called nearest n dearest
      - run solely by Dil Shova Shrestha, herself abused by her husband
      - she is taking care of 29 mother handicapped in someway, 48 children( conflict victim) in her own home using her resources
      - i was fortunate to meet her once this summer. Me n my frens were speechless at the moment, eyes were about to leak off.
      - no any electronic info of her own, She even doesnt know what the NGO/INGO's are, thats what i experienced
      - anything could be of great help, cartoon of biscuit, sac of rice, usable cloth, stationary material, and  good thing is she doesnot            forget to log yr name to the visitor list
     - nowadays people also go their to celebrate their birthday, mother's day with them

P.S. I m listing these here not to advertise the organization, neither shoocasing my deed. These r the things to be done by the Heart not by the mind. I do appreciate n support every bit of such work no matter how big or small it is, in every possible way, I hope, so do u

My pleasure Samikshya, I always prefer to get involve with small charity where money is directly put into welfare of others.
such as:
* AMA KO Ghar: I am so impressed with Dilshova Shrestha; I still wonder do we still have people like her. When most of the people are contaminating food for extra money and politician who is wrecking our life everyday.
* Help Nepal: Great work by Help Nepal, Long term empowerment programs, I always prefer long term empowerment people with education, new skill sets, support etc rather then just handing food/goods.
* Maiti Nepal: Anuradha Koirala what else do I need to say about her.
* Mahabir Pun: great guy, great cause worth supporting him.

I prefer to do away with those charities that are run for profiting and lifestyles of few people. Eg: UN run charities.

I occasionally do contribute to Fred Hollow foundation, founded by Australian eye doctor, a skilled surgeon ,social justice activist who championed the right of all people to high quality and affordable eye care throughout Africa, & Asia (South and South East). Mainly Nepal, Our own hero Dr Sanduk Ruit is part of that Fred Hollow foundation. Til ganga eye hospital was also funded by hollow foundation.

I never believed on UN wings charity, as I know how much they blow up the budget on administration, fat salary packages, facilities for there mid-senior level officers. I prefer to be involved with the charities where I can clearly see where my money is going to and not to be mis-used.

@ crazy nepal: Impressive and thanks for ur dedication and great work. We obviously need people like u ....It would be my pleasure to work and contribute. As being student, I m also involved in different organizations in my university...but sometimes I felt that I can be some more help to Nepalese community as well. I looked at different websites and there are no options for us beside donation. I would like to involve directly and help Nepalese and Nepali community being here in US. :)
