Driving Rental Car from US to Canada
Hey guys,
I am planning to take a road trip to Canada sometimes soon. I am in F1 visa and my travel plan is such that I wil be crossing the border at British Columbia. SO, my question is Can a international student (valid F1 visa) can take a US rental car into Canada? I know I will need the permission from the rental store to cross the border and I will definately confirm that before renting. However, I did not find any info regarding whether F1 students can drive a rental car into Canada or not? Have any of you done it? Please share your experience. Thanks a lot.

I guess at port of entry in Canada via road, they ask for Canadian visa, ur current status in US and reason for travel and not about if you can drive. So all u need is Canadian Visa and of course returning documents.

Yes, u can drive in canada. I'm assuming that you already got your canadian visa.
Thank you folks. I already have my Canadian Visa and other required documents for travel.

I am also planning to canda this summer. Since you already got visa, what is process of getting it? And I am too F1 student.
Sathi ho ma pani Canada janu parne bhayeko chha tara mero visa bharkharai sakiyo usa ko. Can I come back to usa from Canada without any hassle at POE if I have valid I-20?. Ma pani 5 days visit ko lagi rental car liyera canada jadai chhu. Please suggest me.
You might wanna check the validity of US drivers license in Canada just to be on the safe side.
Sathi ho mero problem ko barema ni lekhum na ali janeko bujheko le.
@ simran, Please talk with your international advisor.
Orangeny, thank you so much for your input. I talked to my international advisor and he said that you would be fine if you only stay less than 31 days to Canada. I am planning to stay only 4 days there. I just wanted to make sure. Yedi aru sathi harula lai kehi thaha bhaye plz plz write some words regarding my problem.
Thank you.
@Simran, I am sure you will have to apply for the return visa if you visa already expired, regardless of I20 situation. There is no way that those arrogant dumb SOB's at the border will allow you back with an expired visa.
@Jacksparrow, If you have valid Canada visa, valid return document to the US, a valid driving license and rental car company allowing the border crossing, then I don't know why you even need to ask the question. Just because you are in F1, the rules are no different for you.
yoTaBhayanaNiSom, You scared me but I again talked DSO in my college and he was confident what he said earlier. I am waiting some more inputs from other Sajha experts.

@simran: Don't mean to scare you but I have personally had missed flight several times due to those dumb f*ks even travelling on a valid unexpired visa. I would personally not try to fly/cross border on an expired visa... You are free to take your chances.
