One of my friend is finishing Nursing in Australia this coming year and after that wants to shift to USA to work. What would be the steps we need to take ?? what exams if any??..in what VISA should we apply??? How better is the chance to get a VISA for Nursing???...etc etc etc.....

If you know anything regarding this matter please dont hesitate to jot down. It will be really helpful...

First of all she need to do NCLEX to be certified as RN in USA, once she passed and register herself as a certified RN in USA, she needs to find a job who is willing to sponsor her for a work visa.

there should be some recruitment agency or you can contact hospital directly. Its not just about job they should be willing to sponsor her as well which is a difficult to find with the current situation in USA. best of luck .

first of all she need to concentrate on NCLEX exam register as RN in usa.

I do not understand why people try to give wrong advice when they have no or little information...@ crazynep...Do you have any idea what is going on with nursing in US nowadays...if you dont know then please do not give any wrong advice...
Okay now back to the topic...rightnow there is retrogression in visa for the nurses....that means nobody in USA can sponsor any nurses......not even for the H1b...forget about green card...it is not like it used to be 6 years ago...In your case the only option left is applying for the F1 visa and graduate from the universtiy. After graduation, work for one year using your OPT card. Once your OPT expires then you will have to go back to school again if you want to maintain your legal status or leave the country......There is just no other option left...Also remember in order to legally work usign your OPT card, you will have to graduate with nursing major...you can not gradaute with some other major and do the nursing job while being in OPT......Also nobody wants to hire the OPT nurse...because it expires in a year and they need almost a year just to train them...so my advice will be try to find something in Australia...Coming here will be like strarting from the scratch....please let me know if you have some other concerns...and good luck....

@ SAKU maybe the visa condition has changed in some state for nepalese citizen, If she is an australian citizen she can actually go to usa under work permit E3 visa. usually all nurses who is been here for 4yrs have australian citizen neway.  for her to work as RN in usa she doesn't need to go back to  university . All she needs to do is  NCLEX and register as RN in USA. My friend through some agency doing it rite now. lot of nurses from Australia goes to work in USA under  E3 visa program which is very similar to canadian TN visa , but u need to be an Australian citizen and a holder of a bachelor degree.  all you need is a job offer letter from the employer. If she is not australian citizen she can wait few years and go under work visa E3 .
@saku trust me man m not giving her wrong info.. i am very much sure about what i am talking about.

@ crazynep....If she is Australian citizen then she can come to USA and work on E3 visa...which i did not realise...i was thinking she might be also in student visa in australia...Again E3 visa is valid for only 2 years with no further extension...and under E3 visa you can not apply for the green card. Thats why they give you E3 visa.........That means after 2 years you will have to return back to Australia...

Nothing has been changed in any state for Neplease citizen.....You have heard of neplease people working as a nurse which is completely FALSE....As i said under current situation the only options for th neplease nurse to work in US are GREEN CARD or L2 or OPT...NOTHING ELSE EXCEPT THESE...
As i said nobody will sponsor you for the greencard rightnow...Because there is no visa for foreign nurses.....if your spouse is in L1 visa then you can get work authorization under L2 and if you have nobody then go to school and get OPT card. Thats all......
I am telling you from my personal experience....I came here as a dependent in 2006.....Looked at all the options....Nothing worked out ...eventually i went for masters in nursing....I graduated and rightnow i am working in OPT which is expiring in August...After August i am migrating to Canada.

So please do some research before you take any action....DO NOT DO ANYTHING AS CRAZYNEP IS SAYING....YOU WILL REGRET...IF YOU HAVE BETTER JOB THERE,JUST WORK THERE........IT IS NOT GOOD TIME FOR THE FOREIGN NURSES IN US..IF YOU CAN NOT WORK THEN WHY YOU WANT TO SPEND MONEY AND EFFORT IN LICENSING....

Whatever Saku said is true. To add more info, it is extremely extremely hard to find nursing job in US right now (may vary depending on state a little bit). I repeat hospitals dont Sponsor anymore for bachelors level (not sure for MSN). There are just too many new nurses on the market and too less nurses retiring. Like Saku said, there is no other option left.
