It is true. I have not heard of any useful deed (except for renewing passports) done by Nepali Embassy. I wonder what do these people actually do? Having bribed and kissed the rear ends of politicians back home, they get assigned to these foreign postings. So perhaps it probably is too much to expect them to do their duty.
As Nas said above, maybe these folks at DC in Nepali Embassy are indeed bhaatmaaraas!
Of course, I am willing to eat my words if they immediately start actually helping Nepalis, organizing events to promote Nepal and Nepali products/services/businesses, as what they are supposed to do. But c'mon, who am I kidding.
Nepalese are dieing everyday in America. It is not the Job of embassy to publish news about these dieing people in media. It is the job of so called nepalese organizations to publish news in media and raise funds and help them. These organizations are opened for that purpose. Have you ever seen a single article by embassy to date written about dieing nepalese people? I have not. So many people died here in DC metro area. Embassy is not the one, the local nepalese organizations are the one who need to help and raise funds.

mno do you work for the embassy? these people are not after money from the embassy but just common courtesy of acknowledgement and emotional support, and how many Nepali die from such crimes? Everyday re? are you freeeakin kidding me? May be you live in a different reality. Nepalese embassy's job is to represent Nepal and all Nepalese people in all a foreign land not just making passports and attend lavish parties. People above are angry because they ARE NOT DOING THEIR JOB, who is after their blood money? why dont use you common sense here and show some respect.
Well if you guys remember this incident from a few weeks ago,,this american chick in nepal went and complained over in US Embassy in Kathmandu and got this guy arrested, who alledgedly raped her (had sex without condom)..Well from what i know Embassy is like a home outside of home country. It is not merely a place to go and renew passport (otherwise it should be renamed Nepalese Passport Renewal Center in US,, or rather American Guest House for Nepalese Corrupt (pakhe) Politicians visiting USA).
Well I know that my words are not going to make any dfference to how nepalese govt's attitude towards its own people. So all I can say is that Nepalese Govt suks
No I don't work for embassy. I am just a common person. There are more than 100,000 or more nepalese in USA. Yo embassy ko kaam hoina k. Yo ta local nepalese organizations ko kaam ho.
Ahile samma jati pani USA ma Nepali haru mareka chan, sabai lai local organizations haru le nai help gareka chan ho. Yo organizations haru nepali lai help garna khole ko ho k bujyo. They can help them in all court related cases.
Embassy is here for diplomatic and political purpose. 100,000 nepalis ko sabai information kaha bata Embassy lai thaha huncha unless someone informs them.
Even if someone informs embassy about some tradegy, embassy contacts local nepalese organization and hands the case to them.

May be that american is not a citizen of Nepal, citizen of America. She might be a tourist. If nepalese tourist in America got into some problem then embassy will play its role.
Nepalese Green card holders are may be half citizen of America and citizens of America are no longer citizens of Nepal. Now they are citizens of America and american court and american charitable organizations can also help them and will help them i guess.

mno, borrowing your words, nepalese embassy should help if he was here in tourist visa (even he was illegally working), but did embassy make an effort to know his visa status?
You're wrong if you think american embassy helps only its citizens under tourist visas. One of the most important objective is to help and protect its citizens abroad. Regarding green card holders, do you know which passport (or cititzenship certificates) these people carry?

Hoina, mostly US govt ko refugee resettlement organizationa and local churches harulay hol. some parts ma Nepali organizations haru lay voluntering garayko hola. But we can not give credit to Nepali organizations for the sole welfare of Bhatunese refugees in USA. it's like claming Nepal is the 2nd richest in hydropower.

You are right the real Patriot about these organizations.
Unless someone informs about the incident to Embassy, they will not know. If they know they might give you condolence by mouth not पूरा media मा शोक प्रकट. And Embassy ले घर घर मा शोक प्रकट गर्न फ़ोन गर्दैन hahaha. गर्छ त ?
If the victim's family need some letters from embassy for any legal purpose, they will provide.

I have good respect to Dr Shankar Sharma and his diplomatic effort and he has already done some good works such as Nepali Caucus group in American Congress.He is nice human being and educated patriot. However,person like Kali Prasad Pokhrel is damaging image of embassy.Like so many people said in Sajha,embassy staffs are more in Chakadi of Nepal's Netas and so called Netas of DC Metro Area.
I sent an email to Kali Prasad Pokhrel asking a simple question almost 2 years back: What is criteria for inviting people for celebrating Lokatantra Diwas? He did not answer.I asked same question after a year,he did not reply and asked same question a month back,no reply at all?
They have time to attend all parties and also have time for Chakadis of Local Netas and Nepal's so called corrupt leader but do not have any time for real solidarity when Nepalese community in needs.
They are paid from taxes Nepalese pay and they are here for diplomatic mission as well as for assisting Nepalese community.
I would really like to know what these embassy people do in DC. How exactly do they earn their pay?

- Visa provisioning
- Attend social events
- Attend to Nepali politicians, residing or visiting the US
