 PLZ REPLY BACK... I Just caught by city police in Louisiana selling beer to minor. I'm really worried as i was never been in such situation before. Police told me that i should get a letter to go to court in weeks. Is there any other problem other than fine. I mean jail or any problem while travling back from Nepal. And also i'm graduating next year, Will be there any probem while going to H-1 from F-1.If possible anyone has any idea how long it going to be in my record. Any answer will be great help for me as i'm totally unaware of this situation. I'm really worried right now. Thanks

Bro it will be in your record for 3-5 years depends on your state. they will not arrest you or put you on jail, unless you show up on court dates, pay fines, etc.
 There will be no problem on transfering to h1 from f1. after that there might be, as i know they wil pull your history when applying for greencard.
I  have a friend who was caught on same case and went nepal and came back without any  problem.
Gud luck , dont miss court dates and pay fines.

@Hari Bahadur

First of all dont panic.....it will worsen your situation.....first and foremost as americane said dont miss your court date...and consult a lawyer....he will suggest you how to defend your case(plead guilty or not  etc) ...it may help  getting your charge dropped or get dissmissed... based on the evidence you  have he will suggest how to proceed next...you can ask him if record stays or not...he is the best and reliable person to answer all of these questions

i would strongly suggest consulting a lawyer before going to court.....he is the only one who knows what your best options will be...

how does a lawyer help??? hari bro......do you know the court system? will you know if the court will screw with you and make you an example and slap you with all the charges that apply to your situation if you do not represent your self properly? what chances do you have if they will impose the maximum punishment? Your lawyer will be able to help you identify and explain your case and charges and fight for you. follow our advise and like iinception wrote a legal representer who knows the court will be on your side to see that the court system will give you a fair hearing. If its your first time with no criminal history he will make you look as good and honest as he can to help you get the minimum sentence and even save your record. Good luck and keep us posted....my advise...dont look with for a cheap lawyer ok...get the best out there......

get a yellow book, call as many lawyers as you can, and find out, Dude like I wrote earlier, dont go for the cheap ones, Go for a decent lawyer even if you have to pay a little more. You want your case handled by an experienced lawyer who can get you off the hook with the minimum penalty. Goodluck

well you need to start calling them and get appointments....most good lawyers have free consultations....its the cheaper ones and the self over rated ones who will try to charge you for every penny. Look for the ones say free first visit.....and yes a lawyers office, manner and presentation will tell you a lot about his personality and character. And also by good references. Just do a little bit of looking around and see who you feel good with.  I just know because my Major in college was criminal justice and law, never took that profession.

 hey! hari bahadur,

I dont have any experience like this but one of my friend got caught selling beer after midnight in texas. he later hired a lawyer, and what the lawyer did was really smart. He requested to change the court date assuming that, for such a minor case the cops who caught will not have time to appear in the court. Exactly same thing happened. The cops didnt showup in the court and the case was dismissed.
I believe the total expense was around $200.

well, yoer case looks different than that of my fren, but still there might be a way to get out of it easily, so dont panic and think with a calm head, u will find a way. good luck, i hope this piece of information will help.
