न्युयोर्क, १५ असोज : अमेरिकाको भर्जिनियामा अध्ययनरत एक नेपाली विद्यार्थीलाई प्रहरीले पक्राउ गरी जेल हालेको छ । भर्जिनियाको मेरीमाउन्ट विश्वविद्यालयमा अध्ययनरत सन्जोग मिश्रलाई प्रहरीले पक्राउ गरेको हो । उनलाई कुन अभियोगमा पक्राउ गरिएको हो भन्ने खुलेको छैन । उनलाई भर्जिनियाकै फेयरफ्याक्स काउन्टी एडल्ट डिटेन्सन सेन्टर नामको जेलमा राखिएको छ । अमेरिकी प्रहरीले १५ दिनअगाडि १६ सेप्टेम्बरमा पक्राउ गरे पनि उनको बारेमा भने बिहीबार मात्र थाहा भएको हो । एक नेपाली विद्यार्थीले दूतावासमा फोन गरेर सन्जोग मिश्रलाई प्रहरीले पक्राउ गरेको खबर दिएपछि मात्र दूतावासले थाहा पाएको हो । उनलाई पक्राउ गरेकोबारे नेपाली समुदाय र अमेरिकामा रहेको नेपाली दूतावास बेखबर हुँदा उनलाई सहयोग गर्ने व्यक्ति पनि कोही नभएको दूतावासले जानकारी दिएको छ । थाहा पाएलगत्तै दूतावासका कर्मचारीले मिश्रका बारेमा बुझ्ने प्रयास गरिरहेका छन् । तर, पर्याप्त जानकारी भने कतैबाट पनि प्राप्त भएको छैन । वासिङ्टन डिसीमा रहेको नेपाली दूतावासका प्रथम सचिव आनन्दप्रसाद शर्माले भने, 'मिश्रलाई पक्राउ गरेर डिटेन्सन सेन्टरमा थुनेर राखेको थाहा पाउनासाथ उनको बारेमा थप जानकारी लिन प्रयासरत छौँ ।' नेपालमा रहेका मिश्रका घरपरिवारलाई सम्पर्कमा आउन पनि दूतावासले आग्रह गरेको छ । भर्जिनियाकै रेष्टुरेन्टमा पार्टटाइम काम गर्दै विश्वविद्यालयमा पढ्दै आएका मिश्रलाई प्रहरीले रेष्टुरेन्टबाटै पक्राउ गरेको हो । मिश्रलाई कुन अभियोगमा पक्राउ गरिएको हो भन्ने अझै खुल्न सकेको छैन । तर, प्रहरीले उनलाई काम गर्ने रेष्टुरेन्टबाटै पक्राउ गरी हत्कडीसहित लगेकाले उनीमाथि ठूलै अपराध अभियोग लगाइएको हुनसक्ने दूतावासको अनुमान छ । डिटेन्सन सेन्टरमा राखिएका अभियुक्तलाई सीधै भेट्न नदिइने भएकाले पनि उनको बारेमा थप जानकारी पाउन कठिन परिरहेको दूतावासको भनाइ छ । शर्माले भने, 'हामीले उनीमाथि लागेको अभियोगबारे डिटेन्सन सेन्टरबाटै बुझ्ने प्रयास गरिरहे पनि अहिलेसम्म सेन्टरले कुनै आधिकारिक जानकारी उपलब्ध गराउन सकेको छैन ।' मिश्रको घर नेपालमा कहाँ हो भन्नेबारेमा पनि केही खुल्न सकेको छैन । त्यसैले नेपालमा रहेको मिश्रको घरपरिवारलाई दूतावासमार्फत कुनै आधिकारिक जानकारी पनि पठाउन सकिएको छैन । नेपाली विद्यार्थीलाई पक्राउ गरेकोबारे अमेरिकी दूतावाससहित अमेरिकामा रहेको नेपाली समुदाय नै १५ दिनसम्म बेखबर रहेकाले विद्यार्थीका पक्षमा वकिल राखे नराखेको बारेमा पनि थाहा हुन सकेको छैन । यसबारेमा भर्जिनियामा रहेका नेपाली समाजसेवीसँग बुझ्न खोज्दा पक्राउकै घटनाबारे थाहा नभएको प्रतिक्रिया दिए । सन्जोग मिश्र पक्राउ परेकोबारे उनी अध्ययनरत मेरीमाउन्ट युनिभर्सिटीलाई पनि पत्तो छैन । युनिभर्सिटीको इमरजेन्सी शाखामा सम्पर्क गर्दा मिश्र त्यहाँको विद्यार्थी भएको पुष्टि भए पनि उनलाई पक्राउ गरेकोबारे भने युनिभर्सिटी अनभिज्ञ थियो । सन्जोग पक्राउ परेको जानकारी गराउँदा युनिभर्सिटीका अधिकारीले आश्चर्य मान्दै सोधे, 'हो र ? हामीलाई त यसबारेमा केही पनि थाहा छैन ।'

a google search provides the information that he might have been charged with Code § 18.2-111

which is Embezzlement deemed larceny; indictment .

तर मैले बुज्न नसकेको कुरा के भने ।।।एक त स्टुडेन्ट ले बहिर काम नै गर्न पौदैन, त्यो आँफै इल्लेगल हो अर्को त एम्प्लोएर ले पनि सानो तिनो हिसाब म कोम्प्लैन्त गर्दैनन, उनिहरु आँफैले खै कती हो फाइन तिर्नु पर्छ इल्लेगल काम गरा'को मा,तेसमाथी पनि स्टुडेन्ट लाई सिदै डिपोट गर्दिन्छ किन जैल लानु पर्‍यो र?? जैल मा पनि १०-१५ दिन के करणले राख्नु पर्‍यो ?

I ran into a friend of mine who was co-worker with him.
He used to work at a Diner and he was busted with 300 bucks petty theft. I was told by a friend of mine who worked with him. There were 2 more Nepali guys involved but they were off the hook after they apologized. All three got fired.
However, this dude was cuffed from work. Its been more than 3 weeks and I think he has a court date soon.
I have seen him a few times and I heard he is a nice kid, goes to Marymount Univ in Arlington, VA. He was doin' Bachelors in Micro-biology..
I will keep you guys posted if I get any updates. For now, that's about it..

Nepalease are being known as thief. In TEXAS gas station, almost all students are stiealng money and sending home. Do you think their parants like to spend or parents will be proud of stolen money? Some people brought their parents.?

Not only in TX..everywhere in the USA. It is sad, very sad.

We like to collect easy money which is called corruption back home. Many of us think they will not caught and are very smart. Long time ago someone used to work in toll and he sent home over 50-60 thousands of dollars and bought nice car with cash but he got deported just before completing his undergraduate program. You know, parents were always proud of them until they knew the truth, even the corrupt parent would not be happy about stealing (corruption is okay but not stealing, that is our culture)

Yes, it is a smart move like killing the whole golden egg laying hen to get all at once. It is inherited quality, not having a long term vision but a very short term.

Bhojpure speaks the bitter truth. You cannot hide your stealing habits by citing dhoti bad. You steal; you are a criminal. Period. Everyone who steals MUST be put behind bars. Deporting is setting them free.
