Kick this Bihari's ass. In my whole life I had and have not heard newar community asking for dowry.

Most of my friends married without dowry--bahun, newar all. I think people feel very embarrassed to bring dowry these days, but I may be wrong.

Maybe he is proud of his son in law being a newar? or maybe he isn't sure of newar's tradition of dayez because he is from a different ethnic minority?

My son-in-law is a green card newar. Why is there a need to also type my daughter married him? Oh yeah! that's right, is it because same sex marriage is gaining legal acceptance at more jurisdictions and you want to make it clear that it is your daughter, and not your son, who married this "green card newar"?

If this rogue son-in-law is asking for "dayez", then tell him you don't have such money or any other asset he is asking for. If that does not work, explore legal avenues to make him stop with his demands without severing your new-found family ties. That could be quiet a tough balancing act but you gotta be smart and tactful. That fact, that you have seen more years than this green-shoot, should work in your favor.

So, what's wrong for a Newar to ask for so called "dayez" from a bihari? Wouldn't you be happier if you had a son and you were the person asking for "dayez" instead. Afterall, Biharis die for "Dayez". Correct me if iam wrong!

I had heard in a reddy family of Andhra pradesh, if the boy is in USA(doesn't matter student or permanent resident) and a maters degree graduate,he is worth at least 2 crore in dowry. It is a business there till today.
