you heard it wrong or someone misinformed you. If you have been granted asylum in the United States, you can apply for "permanent resident" (green card) on or after one year of the date of asylum granted to you.

Go ahead and file form I-485 as asylee. Don't be late.

Good luck!

definitely you can apply for the green card. the only thing is if ur application is based on some political parties that are under the tier iii rule ur application can be on hold. if u dont mind is ur application of asylum is based on any political parties?

As far as I know, It doesn't matter what group you're related to. Your personal affiliation matter to any group for which you have been granted asylum is ended at the date of master hearing and that is final. Since then, your status is asylee in the United States. Now you just go ahead and file (or if already been filed) I-485, you do not need to worry about. Because you have been granted asylum and seeking to change your status as a permanent resident. Do not worry, at all. Just be very cautious that you do not commit/involve in any type of crime that will possibly put you in a removal proceeding depending on the crime.

Good Luck!
