My Personal Evaluation of US Stay:

- Been 8 yrs now

- Dherai Dish Washing Gariyoo ani Dukhha payapachi Bela mai Budhi Puriyoo

- got lucky few times in life - finishing Ph.D.

- working for government

- recently saw few friend's parents passed away back in country and due to circumstances they couldn't go to pay last respect

- just promised myself to go back to country and stay with the loved ones once i finish studies

...otherwise the inner voice will hunt me till the day i die.

Good Luck Fellas

Bottom line: As PoonHill said, hang on there, no looking back move ahead, we can achieve our goal. Let's not regret , let's focus on our goal and reason to be here.

Oh ho Sajha ka sathi-haru, hope you guys are doing well. It has been more than 7 years since I stopped exchanging thoughts, ideas, hopes, humors, frustrations and everything in-between here in Sajha; but I do come in and follow threads once in a while for sure. Thank you AdrianDaju for the shout out.

Well, my updates since 2010 are:
- worked in state government for 9.5 years and continued my PhD program as well. It was a hell of a ride, joined a program with a really bad reckless professor. It came to a point where I had to take her out of my program, and begged another professor to be my main advisor. Finally defended my dissertation last year in November, and am graduating this spring.

- Moved out of a small town in midwest after 15 years where I started with $20 in my pocket as I was stepping out of Greyhound bus in a snowy day. I'll tell you what- it was a heartbreaking moment to leave that town as I was shoving my stuff in car. A true home town besides Kathmandu for sure

- It dawned on me around 2 years ago about the thought of "Why work for others and make them rich when you can work for yourself"; so I quit the job last year and started an engineering consulting company with a friend. That way I can even go to Nepal and work from there as well. If the decision I took was wrong or right - time will tell.

- One thing that I realize now after all these years is that difficulties in life are sort of "Blessings in Disguise". It teaches you valuable lessons for the future to come. One mantra that I preach now is "Take Risks and Conquer your Frears"

- Parents are growing old now and wishes me to be around them, so I am planning the move back within a few years. I think I have finished whatever the objectives I had in mind when boarding that plane from TIA 17 years ago, and nothing is really holding me back; so I am looking forward to the next chapter of life.

- I am not getting any younger either after all that beating experience of life, so I am planning to get settled before I become a chaurey budo with a bald head and every girl in town starts calling me uncle.

- Now that I look back at my experience here, it was totally worth it. Laughed a lot, cried a few tears, made a lot of good memories, learned a lot. I would not have it any other way I guess.

- And if I were to go back in time, I would change the title of this thread to " USA - Bhujney lie Computer, Na-bhujney lie Typewriter"

Sajha ka sathi-haru: Nothing but loads of good luck to you all. I managed to hang in there long enough to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Hope same thing goes with you all. Adios.

It's great to read something with positive thoughts with the message that world is for those who can keep pushing towards their goal without constantly whining about everything.

Good to see you guys from our ole times. For me, what america gave:

Independence or self-sufficiency, maturity, ability to see things from other perspectives, ability to hardwork, courage to face difficulties ( I am not afraid anymore, bring it on), money (of course), advanced degree, ability to accept differences in us, made liberal,

What it took away:

As someone already pointed out-social life, true/ good friends, youth,

I am also thinking of going back in a few years' time. Have responsibilities towards parent, they are getting old.
