From your statement it seems like you are student in the USA and still studying. As far as know, if you are maintaining your student status (registered the courses as required by the university rules) you are not out of status even though the visa is expired in the passport. Visa stamp is only to enter the US. You should have stamped I-94 with D/S (duration of status) at the port of entry. So your I-20 maintains your visa while you are a student and in the US. But if you go out, then you will need valid visa in the passport to reentry.

Best suggestion is to contact international student center.

you really don't need a visa to complete your education. make sure that all your i-20 are current and signed by the DSO. you need visa only to enter US, if you are not planning to go out of USA, then you don't need visa...in other words, you don't have to go to Nepal just for visa reasons

if you desperately need visa, just go to canada...thats the easiest...

don't take risk bro....its very tough situation to enter every country....UK Australia or US....i guess u know the reason....visa expire means u hav go through the whole process of interview and stuffs to get the visa again....goin canada and then enter US by showing I-20 is one option however i think u need visa for Canada in that situation...

last december two of my frens went to nepal and while returning , US immigration didn't let one of them to enter US so he had to return back 2 nepal. the reason was he had less then 2 gpa at that time. Even he had valid visa.
So i think goin nepal without a visa is not a good idea

Seeems like brother is in my condition 2 months before. ..i have been in US for last six yrs .. .  my visa was expired in 2007 and i wanted to go to nepal ... . the last time i had visited nepal was in 2005  . .  so, knowing alll these things, i read sajha comments regarding alll these  . . . but i wanted to go, I went to nepal in december 2009. I had just three weeks holiday and had the winter quarter begining from january 4th .. . . . my parents didnt felt that happpy when i said i wannna come nepal on the basis of neeeding new visa. .. .

What i did was,  I reapplied  .. . i had an interview, the most important document needed are 1) Letter of Status from International Student Advisor, Transcript, I-20 . . . thats alll ... . in addition to that I by myself included a bank statement of 5000$ .. .  I will be graduating in June, I had only 22 quarter units remainin .. . . they would be forced to give me visa no mattter what, they not gonnna hold me, i am about to graduate. .. . .   they did gave me visa .. .

One thing: Hey if you dont need, better not go . . but if you are graduating preety sooon, if you have decent GPA, I suggest you to go, otherwise you might gonnna have hard time. . . . .  at the moment that lady asked me several questions, she was freaking rude the way she asked me ,. . ..  man we stayed in your country for 6 yrs, we served the people like you everysingle day providing gas, obviously i could answer her welll . . ..  she asked me why it toook me 6 yrs, she went to my sevis, she was mean though, she gave me visa as i was taking more than full time classes as my transcript shows, have decent GPA, so thats wahy that feaking so callled counsellor gave me a visa.. .. .even this freaking counsellor, she was side to side while dining in Nanglo Cafe (euta dalal jasati nepali pani thyo tyo sanga) some days after i got visa. . ..

The plus point - I have 5 yrs visa, gonnna be graduate after 6months, OPT ma hallina parla. . . master join garne plan cha. . . . nepal jana aawona lai kunai aaeta bar vayena .. .  if i didnt went nepal .. . .god damn, atleast for some yrs would have been stucked here . .. . went nepal. . .  had so much goood time . .. .  beeen relaxed. . . ..  met parents and families, friends. . .. . . .

let me know, bro, i willl tellll u that in more detail if you wamnnnna know. . . one of my fren had gone nepal beofre also like I did. . . .

My Scenario is: "Visa expired in May 2008"
I completed my Undergraduate in May 2008 and worked 1 year in OPT and joined Master's Program from Fall 09 and I will be done with my Master's in a Year or less(this is my second semester). I got 4.0 GPA in first semester of Master's Program and i am expecting the same for the current semester too.....I am thinking of going to Nepal in this summer to renew my Visa....Based on my scenario, would it be best time to go to Nepal ?
Immigration specialist at my school told me that this would be perfect time to renew visa for me.
What do you guys think ? Any idea/suggestions ??

Thank you.

I do not see a problem here. As long as you have all the required documents, in general there should not be any problem getting ur visa renewed.

BUT, plz dont ever say that.. " They will be forced to give me a visa ... no matter what... ".. you still do not know.. having a DECENT GPA and completing Undergrad in 6 years or taking more loads than full time is not Equivalent to Nobel Prize Laureates.
