I am graduating in May 2010 and I wish to have my parents apply for their US visas for my graduation. However, I only want to invite my parents once I relocate and have decent savings under my belt. The question I have in mind is whether my parents will be required to enter the US within a certain number of months once they get their visas. Since the embassy issues 5 year multiple visas, I am running under the assumption that once my parents get their visas, they will be able to come to the US anytime within the 5 years without any contingency.
Sajha members' insight on this matter would be highly valued.
Yes, once they get the visa, they can come anytime before their visa expires......i.e 5 yrs. But there will be a restriction for how long they can stay.
Goodluck, may you get to see your family very soon.
yes..thats right..my parents came US after 3 months and my graduation was over.
Thanks for the information guys
But keep in mind, there is no guarantee that the embassy will give 5 years multiple entry visa.
That's what happened in my friends case. His parents were given 2 months visa and there may be a clause that you have to enter US within 6 months of visa issuance.
Please do a full research before doing anything.
If your parents got 5 yrs multiple visa and want to enter any time within the visa duration they can do so but need to have valid reasons(not always but sometime). Recently you do have the valid reason that you are graduating but if you plan to invite them later then you need to have any other valid reason indicated on your Invitition letter. Never mind you will get lots of reason to invite your parents once they get visa.
