Just wondering whether US cell phone (sprint) works in Dubai. My sister is going to Nepal via Dubai and has to stay in a hotel overnight,  wondering whether  US cell phone will work there for emergency purposes.

AT&T works everywhere around the world, even in Nepal.

Pokhari, it should probably work but be aware of international roaming charges.  I just returned from Nepal a week ago.  If I were to use my AT&T cell phone, it would cost me $2.49 per minute in Qatar and $3.49 in Nepal for both inbound and outbound US calls.  You may want to check with Sprint.  Also, you may need to activate international roaming to be able to use abroad.

i would not suggest using....its way cheaper to use phone cards or other local services than paying international roaming

Thanks to everybody for the answers.

I know it is going to be very expensive but money does not compare to safety. She will not be using it except for emergency, just want her to have something handy to call during emergency and feel safe that everybody is in reach.

If you have international call roaming then YES it will WORK!!

if you are planing to use it with local carrier then read below,

SPRINT(also VERIZON) uses CDMA technology...so my answer is NO!! ( I worked with Sprint for sometime back)

But can you make it work?
Theoretically answer is YES....(Very TOUGH, only Experienced TECHNICIAN can do it)!!

(Wipe the Software and adjust it with the provider's code at your country CDMA only)

Is it easy?
NO

I also know GRAY MARKET TECHNICIAN  in INDIA, can convert CDMA into GSM phone!! ( i have no clue how do you do that)

ALSO for ATT make sure its UNLOCKED and QUAD BAND ( but you can easily unlock GSM PHONES)

CDMA= NO SIM CARD
GSM=SIM CARD NEEDED
