Can I use i-phone without dataplan for ATNT?? I have 39$ per month plan from ATNT and I am planning to buy unlocked i-phone. Will ATNT charge me extra money for data plan?? I don't want to use the data plan because i have wi-fi at my work and home.

Please reply back if there is any workaround for this.

Regardless of how/where you buy an iPhone at&t charges 30 dollars for the data plan (and any other smart phones). Why not get iPod Touch 3G, no contract, no fees, no tension.

btw what model/ how did you get a hold of unlocked iphone ? software/ hard unlocked ?

Yellow ji has made his point with authority but unfortunately he is wrong here. I am currently using an unlocked iphone 3g with my at&t $39 data plan and I DO NOT have to pay the extra $30 data charge. So Mr. Tuktuk, you can go ahead with your plan.

If you got the UNLOCKED phone, you can use the way you want.

No worry.

Its like buying nokia or other unlocked phones and using it. Even you can use unlocked iphone for T-mobile or any other. ke tension lira bekarma.

You can get the unlocked iPhone, but be sure to never use data plan. My gf bought an unlocked phone and we used the GPS during emergency. At&t figured out that she was using an iPhone and started charging her with data plan the next month. Besides, an iPhone without data plan is as cool as watching VHS tapes in HDTV.

@fortunefaded tysto pani na bhana na, its like buying computer w/o internet ahaha. all jokes aside.

Here is what you need to do if you plan on using iPhone on AT&T w/o Data plan.

All you have to do is call ATT and tell them you are using a different Phone, give them you Old Phone's IMEI number. They will update their system. Suggest them to block Data or Change APN yourself on iPhone ( hacks required) otherwise you will run into problem like fortunefaded

for those using unlocked iPhone, does your unlock goes away when you update softwares thru Apple. I wanted to know how they unlock (besides the ultrasn0w/yellowsn0w etc)

P.S I don't pay for Data either.
