My OPT started 15 days ago and do not have job or job offer yet. I need to travel out side US for 1 week. My international student adviser suggested me that there won't be any problem to re-enter because it is within <90 days. Does anybody have experience similar to this?

I will really appreciate your inputs.

Not recommended. Avoid travelling out of US if you are in OPT. If you have Valid Visa (actual stamp), OPT cards, and Job offer, you will be fine but not recommended. Hope there will be more reply from experience people.

I would also strongly NOT recommend traveling in OPT coz you never know what will happen, but these are the things you need to consider if you have to

Travel Outside the US

Documents to carry with you:

1.
I-20/DS-2019 (with travel signature* dated in the last 6 months)

2.
Valid Passport (valid for 6 months into the future on date of re-entry)

3.
Valid visa (exceptions to Canada/Mexico/Islands for 30 days or less)

4.
Recommended:  Carry proof of enrollment (past and future)

5.
If on OPT – also carry your EAD card and proof of employment (strongly recommended)

6.
If you changed immigration status while in the US – carry change of status approval notice (I-797)

If you have Valid Visa (actual stamp), OPT card(valid), I20 endorsed by DSO and Job offer(must have-nd no Job offer letter from Consultancies plz)), you should be fine...there is no problem in travelling in OPT if u have above docs...Couple of my friends had travelled in OPT with absolutely no problem..

If u currently have an employment (a geniune employment, not Indian consultancies) & carry proof of that employment stating that you will continue to have that employment after you return to the US, u will be fine. Also dont forget to carry ur OPT I-20, EAD card, & all I-20s just in case.

If you have anything missing, travel on OPT not advisable.

Strongly not recommended.

The following are some of the listed ones in our university bulletin regarding OPT.

1. If your OPT is approved and leave US before getting job, your OPT ends and you cannot reenter US.

2. If your OPT is approved and have job or job offer, you may travel outside US and reenter to continue working the same job.

3. If your OPT is pending and you leave US, you may reenter US to continue searching job. To avoid problems at border, return before your I-20 expires.

So there is no way you can go outside US before getting job once ur OPT is approved as per you school international bulletin.

I've traveled in CPT...but I think it's irrelevant for this thread.

Thank you friends.

USICE tells thats OPT ends when one leaves USA provided EAD approved and no job or job offer. My international adviser's point was that because you can be unemployment for initial 90 days, during this period you can travel without job or job offer. But seems like this is not true.

"unemployment for initial 90 days"

On 12 Months of OPT, You can't be unemployed for more than 90 days on that 12 months period..Whether it's Initial 90 days or total of 90 days during 12 months period. And the Unemployment days are accrued..

Travelling on OPT without Job offer is Absolutely not advisable...

Technically most opt holders must be illegal in this recession. When US citizens with expereince are dying to find jobs in the market I wonder how many opt holders are finding a full time job related to their studies and not staying unemployed for more than 90 days.

dyamn,
ta sanga citizenship atawa permanent residency cha bhandai ma je mann lagyo tehi bhanchas.....
They find jobs because they deserve. Just because you or somebody else has citizenship don't automatically entitle them for jobs.
