I am sorry, but isn't that what british did to Nepali and Punjabis for decades. However, they only did it in a worse manner, by under paying, not treating equally and not giving any citizenship benefits until recently when gorkha soldiers had to fight in the court.Everyone takes Gurkha army as a pride, why not US army? wow, American citizenship in 6 months, sing me up.

Looks like U.S. has finally found a way to kill terrorists and get rid of Immigrants at the same time. Promise the so called educated immigrants citizenship within six months and send them to Afghanistan or Iraq to serve as canon fodder for the Army. The irony is that you will probably end up dead from some shrapnel or rocket launcher before you get your U.S citizenship.
It would be interesting to see if any Nepali would buy into this sort of scam.

This is a good opportunity for many nepalis. It is true that there are deadly risks involved but don't nepalis work in gas stations and other convenient store are also met with deadly consequences? Working in these places is as risky if not more than working for the military.
I think it is more safe in the army because at least you can shoot back. You don't have to worry about money to pay your bills not to mention health insurance. If you survive you can then work anywhere as a US citizen. From what I heard age limit is 29 for marines and air force and 34 for army and navy. The pilot program will recruit only in the army.

Based on the news, they are looking for "immigrant" after Vietnam war. Does that mean they have scarcity in recruitment? The basic idea is "saving american citizen from another Vietnam in Afganistan". They want to send "newly adopted citizens" in the frontline.

I have heard that anybody with good physical fitness can enter into Army regardless of his/her age.

Age limit for US Army <=35. It's not easy though. I've got few friends in all branch of services. One of our nepali fella' joined the US Army and within his boot camp training he lost 20 lbs. He is in IT field and he says now he started lovn' his job. He has never been in direct combat but constantly travles different part of the world. Some people like it and some not. Some of the advantages that I see in the military are free health & life insurence, college money, professional trainings, physical readiness and equal rights (unlike Gurkha soliders). There are some disadvanteges too like, isolation, family separation, health and life risks. I heard there are few Nepalese sisters in the US military. Matter of fact, I met one gal and she was saying she is going to renlist after 4 years of her job in the service.

kalopani don't compare Gurkhas with American armies.

American armies do not hold a candle to Gurkhas for your information.

Fellows. Before you guys decide to jump off a cliff in excitement, please read the article properly.

Where does it say that F-1 student holders are eligible?

Where does it say that it's only Nepalese who will be hired? It says they will recruit 1,000 able men/women so you're up against more than 100,000 men from various countries. Please don't be deluded and do the right thing i.e. study properly and focus in your main goal instead of getting distracted.
