Namaste,

This downward spiraling economy is effecting everybody as we know. I was wondering how TX is affected. I'm thinking about relocating if in case I get laid off to someplace in TX for many reason, living cost, weather, etc etc. Any suggestion and information around Dallas, Houston or Austin area will be appreciated. How is the IT field being effected in those metro cities? I'm open to anything if things get bad. I do have a GC and just planning if I loose my job to make a fresh start somewhere.

Thanks

Having a gc means nothing these days. You go to be at the right place, many cities are drying out with no jobs at all. I checked craigslist as a measure of how things are, of course might be wrong. It appears Austin seems to be better than Dallas and Houston with hiring as of right now. There are more listing.

Economy has slowed down affecting daily lives, but still better than some other states. Don't know much about IT field, but as far as I know DFW was never a boomtown for IT proffesionals, Austin may be. Living cost Houston is the cheapest, Oil and gas related jobs; GREAT !!! (if you are worthy)

Weather !! you got it right dude, its 70 outside, expected high 79, but you need to find a way to escape the summers.

Thanks free,
How are the Nepali IT gurus surviving there in DFW areas, besides leaving for other states? I get a feeling that the university are cheap there, lots of students, maybe???
Any major industry? beside Enron. There got to be a techy city in TX. If anybody working in TX in the IT fields, could you pour some info regarding job opportunity? Where? You help will be very appreciated.
Jai Nepal.

I'm only planning just in case I get laid off. I'm sure everybody has a backup plan.It is not that bad compared to the rest of the country but it is getting worse every month. I've lived here for a while, seen most of it, I prefer traveling and the winter is taking a toll on me. I hate long winters, it's more than 8 months of winter, though not that cold, but no sunlight. If there are places in TX where I can get a descent job, I'm more than happy to move there. If I loose my job, it will be the perfect reason and time to move.
