Hi guys,
I have a question. Is OPT Student/foreign student eligible for federal jobs in the US?or it is only for US citizens and Green Card Holder? quick and serious reply please..
thanks
You can take it as long as they are ready to hire you. Jobs that arent for you will say that in bold (only for GC's and Citizens)
Federal jobs requires US Citizen only. Not even GC except USPS.
MN Nepali, thank you for the info..
Actually, they have given me the time frame for the interview. I did not mention my status, but I had written authorized to work for any employer in the US.so,it means they hire OPT student too. I didn't see any restrictions(for US citizens,GC..) on the ad though.
Some information regarding federal Jobs. Hope it helps.

Federal jobs are only for US citizens. You have to have that at the time of your application.
Yeah if the interview goes well at the end, mention clearly to them that you are on OPT permit. I had to miss NCAR job at Boulder due to this case.
Thank you guys for the information. It was very helpful.
Just wanted to share my experience- as we all think feds are only for citizens, I hesitated to apply many of them. However, at one point I thought why not and thus applied. Scored the job- now I am in J1 which is valid for 2 years and there is chance of extending it for next 3-years.
So the main point is- until they frankly say no, it does not hurt to apply. There are several industry where feds can not fill all job without international pool and they know it more than us.

Hello Mr. Dharan,
Well, interview is just not the last process for getting a federal job. Federal job requires background check and some job might need different level of security clearences. They will do your back ground check in detail and will find out about your status in USA. Although I was a Federal employee, I could not do many things inside my job because I was waiting for my security clearence. GC can give you military job and USPS jobs, but you still can't do so many things in your department.
