dear dreamchaser,
if you can AFFORD big $$ than of course do PA; I think from your confusion it does not look like you have an idea how much it cost to do PA.. well tuition goes upwards of 100k, and don't expect in-state tuition and or scholarship. Residence or immigration should not be a problem in case if you do go for either.

Better yet; you can do your MD in Caribbeans; there are lots of Medical school there catering to students from US/Canada - those who did not get admission in US medical institution as its much tougher here. Fees are relatively cheap also. You can come out of school with MD and spent only around $50k for 4-5 years. http://www.studentdoc.com/caribbean-medical-schools.html

There you go; hope it helps, hit the road... and do consult other people as I am no expert either this is what I know from fact.

i am assuming that you're a smart/intelligent and that you got atleast Magna Cum Laude in BSC for going to PA Otherwise.. you can say bye bye to all of the above even Nursing is tough to get admisision.

    Thank you bro..well! here in NY, I can do PA at the same cost one can do the BSN or any other undergraduate courses at a 4 years college... since its about $800 for a credit, and I am planning to finish my most of the pre-requistes in the community college that I am going to at the moment.. and then Move to the 4 years college for the last two years.. Do you think its a good idea??

   Another question: So you think it's better to do PA than a RN or BSN?? If you could provide more informations on "Why It is wise to choose PA over RN or BSN, if one wants to get MD in the future?", it would be a great help.

RN BSN, and PA: I believe would have different set of courses u will have to take during ur undergraduate, isn't it? With PA, U will probably be geared more towards ur final destination than RN, BSN (If ur final destination/goal is to be a Doctor, PA would be a better optoin, u think?)

 

Although, one person did their RN, BSN and went for Medical school, but they took several more courses after their BSN, to get into medical school. Good luck.

BTW for PA you have to complete your BSC first. Nursing is straight after high school. Forgot to mention that.

Also why PA? well what would you prefer to be known yourself in your profession? Dr. Dreamchase or Nurse Dreamchase.

My understanding is that RN is an associate degree, BSN is a undergraduate degree and PA is a graduate degree. First thing that might be helpful to decide is what level of education do you want to receive before you enter the real world. For some of us, we cannot afford to go to school for 4 years and the better option would be to get an associate degree that is most likely to get us a job after graduation. Once you enter into the profession, you can get tuition reimbursement to pursue higher degrees. But, there is a catch. The catch is it is very hard to manage work and pursue a competitive degree program such as PA at the same time. But, it is not impossible. It depends on you, your dedication and your patience. Because of the nature of the work of the medical field, which involves patient care, it could be very stressful at times and one may not be able to focus properly on their studies.

Alright, saviour is back again. DO PA. 1st, depeding upon where you "live" - 70-75K when you get out, after app. 2-3 years it goes upto 100k. Takes bout 2-3 years to finish depending upon schools. 2nd. think like PA as an doctor without having to pay malpractice. You do pretty much everything like doc. DO sugery, physician W.E, but u dont pay malpractice, ur doc covers for you. So, you get paid with paying malp -- except taxes. 3rd. AWESOME hours, make your own. Dont have to nuts like nurses. They look so drained out man, its crazy. They do get paid decently but not as much. SO THINK ABOUT it. OR best, talk to some PA around ur hosptitals they will more than happy to help you out.


HOW DO I KNOW SO MUCH, NO NO I AM NOT DOING IT. My girlfriend is, well she wanted to do MD, yet she loves it.

I m doing my undergrad now in biological science. And i am planning to go for 29 months OPT and than join MPA Pragram. PA program is quite competitive and is two years program. I dont think its that expensive. However, 60-70 thousand will be enough for the program. But after u get your degree, starting pay is like 85K, but it depends on the state too.  So its kinda lucrative field to those whose dream is to be a doctor.

There are some colleges with Undergrad PA program and some colleges with 5 years program. I think its very hard to international students.
