Please someone enlighten me on this:::
With the new law effective from 8th of April 2008, those students who are in "Post graduation OPT" can not stay unemployed for more than 90 days.
I see so many extra talented people here expressing their view who got their job by their own merit. I would like to ask them a simple question: Tell me honestly with the current job market,,, how will those guys be able to find another job within 3 months?? I personally do not see this happening even you might be qualified well enough. Reasons: 1 month for job advertisement. Next, more than a month for couple of round of interviews if selected. "sponsoring h1 or gc" definitely will be an issue to get rejected and most importantly... freshman just out of school. So the only option is to join the consultancy to stay in the safe side.
Don't you guys think,, Senators or law-maker whoever you were referring to, are helping these consultancies instead of tightening things up????

I can smell the arrogance of those who got the job on their own before the new law was in place. Friends,, its easy to give an advise..Explain me, will you be comfortable enough if you were given the same circumstances  at the time you graduated?? I bate you wont be able to find a job in three months period if you were to fired today.

Those who already got h1 but still could not get a job, please......stop crying. They filed your h1 because you could not get a sponsor by your own and now you want them to find a job for you the next day. Certainly they will take time to get good money out of you because they have invested on you.

Those unlucky friends who are in OPT (and working) and were not lucky enough to be selected for h1 this year ::: its just a lottery (which is not supposed to be like that)..and listen folks: "hard-working people do not depend on so called lottery".

catwoman, you say we are "jealous" of you?  HAHAHA  How much more ignorant can you get?  Why on earth would I be jealous of a new graduate who prolly will make 6 times less than what I make?  Ain't no one jealous of you here...The only hoopla going on here is the fact that you call the people who have a job but NO H-1 as having Bad Luck.  Suprising that this statement comes from someone hoarding an H-1 when it's and ILLEGAL practice to be doing so.  Hell, you could do whatever you want but for me (and you may be a nice person in real life), you used UNFAIR means.  Thats as simple as it can get!!

cham-chum (the name itself tells of the impure thoughts running in that noggin of yours), do I even need to answer your question about staying in status with an H-1:  "I bate you wont be able to find a job in three months period if you were to fired today."  You answer the question itself in your last statement: "and listen folks: "hard-working people do not depend on so called lottery".  Could you quit contradicting yourself and look within for the answers to your very own questions??  BTW, the H-1 has been a lottery for a while now and every person hired in an OPT MUST go through that...So, doesn't everyone DEPEND on the so called lottery, Smarty???

Samsara you are right that its a crime. Dude don't take it personally but our concerned is someone from Nepal got BA, who is desperately looking for a job with H-1 visa and no job. I think its just a nature of dhotis, as they don't like Nepali to become a leader and one day open own consultancy.

Is it possible to do paid internship in any companys? If not, keep on trying, don't loose hope and don't be disheartened. "Where theres' is a will, theres' a way".

Indian consultancies are saving whole lot of students' asses. Whatever she did was a nice move. Now she has H1-B. Catwoman, you can search the regular job by yourself. Once you find the job, transfer h1b. Do not just depend on the consultancy marketing guys. Good part of these consultancy is that they teach all the tricks you need to land into the interviews. I do not care even the resume is total lie. I spent couple of months with a consultancy but found job myself and quit consultancy. I knew some people waited for a year to get into the job. But, some got job right after the training. It depends on you and your luck. Congratulations on your H1B. Goodluck!!

Cham-chum, championing the illegal cause, are ya??  What a fitting deed for a name that means groping a lady's private parts!!  Keep it up, sicko!!  BTW, When a relative/friend of yours gets sent back packing to Nepal, then come and explain on sajha as to someone hoarding an H-1 being a righteous cause!  Damn, where do these morons come outta??

well, in my case i never went through indian consultancies.  I was not lucky enough to get H1b in first attempt and got it in 2nd attempt.  what surprises me about these consultancies is, they hire people from any background ( business, chemistry, maths, physics, engineering , computer science).  It is understandable that computer science students with some training will do well if given some opportunities in their related field.  I am assuming most of the jobs are related to computer field, so, how on  earth would those guys from different background will be able to work in competitive environment with just 3 months of training?  That is why i never went to those consultancies.  I am an engineer myself and i would nt waste my 18 years of education in my field and find a job in different field with just 3 months of traning.  I believed that i would be not be competitive enough in that job.

anyways, it is very sad that people with real jobs are getting H1bs because of these consultancies who just make fake resume of 5 years of experience after 3 months of training.

Just want to say, "Good Luck for Unlucky Bastards" for next year and stop bothering others if you dont have one. No-one is illegal or legal either way.

Note: Whether you file H1B, from anywhere they dont show 4-5 years of experience in resume submitted to USCIS . It will just be a normal resume after graduation.
