Amitabh Bachchan - a Role Model?

Amitabh Bachchan is probably the most snobby of all Bollywood movie actors. In a nation with billion plus in population and most of them living below poverty line, do you think this kind of attire and style appeal to the fans or onlookers? Does it please the animal right advocates? With Bollywood drawing more and more attention from the world over every passing day, does he represent a regular Indian or South Asian?
Some of you might argue it's his money. He can do whatever he wants with his money. But trust me, when you live in a tightly knit society, criticism always exist. You can't have it both ways-that is you can satisfy your whims and still look good in the eyes of the masses especially your enemies.

I pass the mic to you now. Have your say (in writing).

I agree with Mr. Hyde. I recently found him wearing metal all over his body.

LET HIM WEAR FURS IF HE WANTS TO, it's not like he killed the animal and took it's fur!! he thought it looked good on him that doesn't mean he supports killing animals for fur.

Most of the people on Sajha are wasting time in one way or the other. You know it I know it. And still, you  preach do this or do that? Com'on ive me a f'kin' break.

The reason why I had to reprimand the first responder is because he/she used the phrase "non sense things" but never did justify why it was so nonsense after all. Go through all the threads, which one of it will help you pay the bills, solve world problems blah blah blah. The answer is : almost none.

If a thread does not strike a passer-by's fancy then I think the person should be courteous enough to stop by but gently pass; no need to give a negative spin. When anyone of you start a thread won't you be in my state of mind?

Regarding going to get a job, you folks know nothing about me. Did you think that only hard work can make you wealthy? You are dreaming. There are perfectly legal and tax-paying ways to become wealthy without even being a conforming corporate slave in a white-color position. Unfortunately, I am doing it exactly that at the moment. I just happen to have more free time at work these days.

Getting back to the 'pwaint', when only the fanatics of Amitabh take over the thread this is how the dynamics of the thread evolves as you can see. Unlike Hollywood stars like Jolie, Pitt, Brando have/had their conviction on what needs to be changed in the nation/world and used their fame, time and resources to promote those causes., what has Amitabh done so far to promote anything so as to treat him like Godsend. Has he promoted anything in his home country for the betterment of the under-privileged? Hollywood stars like Gere have to fly across the world to preach safe sex to prevent the spread of HIV because locals won't do sh!t.

Bollywood celebrities have a lot of power that they can harness even if it's once a week for solving problems that are plaguing India or the world. They, including Mr Bachchan, still have six other days to make obscene amount of money whether it's my charming you on the  movie screen or by endorsing a sub-par quality brand product. No wonder Amitabh has constant spats with the Thackarays, the Khans, the Gandhis and the likes.

The irony in this 21st century is that billions of people know and worship Amitabh, Shah Rukh is but most even don't even know or realize the contribution made by individuals like Gandhi, Dr. King, Muhammed Yusuf, or Mother Teresa to name a few. Examine the picture above and see for yourself again, how much out of touch Mr Bachchan has become to the perils of the world.

The takeaway is: celebrities can change the world for the better and they are squandering those opportunities that could contribute to their own legacies before they ultimately become mere dust in the wind.

nice point hyde, you seem very concerned with this issue but isn't killing animals for fur illegal now anyway? lotta celebrities in hollywood and models are against it and they don't wear fur clothes, i don't know about bollywood.
P.S. fur boxers would look funny on men hahaha.

I like the issue raised by Mr Hyde. Bacchan is a prominent figure in India and in the world of entertainment. The products he ads for are highly sold in the market. He has a very persuading personality. In such a case, people would try to imitate his works, his thinking, his style. If this pic is highly published the furry cloth market will grow... so as a result there will be more illegal poaching of wild animals...

Had it been worn my OCram or nostradamus, people would have thrown it out even if they had one . But its Amitabh Bacchan... so its something that is not welcomed.

I don't know what is the criteria of being a "Role model" and I am not sure if someone wears a posh coat , might creat controvercies like this, and dismisses the idea  of being one's  rolemodel . I am not Bachchan fan but have you seen those celebs in Hollywood whose only mantra is " just sing bling bling". Have you ever seen  them showing off their larger than life portraits posing as jesus or have you seen their gold toilet or their one of those $300,000  worth cars or bragging about their mansions???  Come on, give AB a break!  As my memory tells me he is a PETA india chapter member and once  given " vegetarian of the year" award. If someone is concerned about that fur then it possiblly is faux fur. We all know( most of us)  what status he holds not only on his country but around the world and as far as I know he is doing his share of social  work one way or another , just because he wears one fancy  coat dosent mean that he's not fit for rolemodel or anything like that. Just my .5 cent.( Can't  spare my 2 cents for topic like this. but I can understand mr hyde's concern)

Second thing,  Is that fur real or artifitial .  Don't know.  At least he is better role model than KALE Hip hop singers.

He is not a bad person per se, but not definitely a role model. He has a great voice and unusually white teeth for that age other than that I don't see anything role model of him

Faux Fur or not, he has deliberately or accidentally attempted to glamorize clothing with animal fur and the followers might follow suit ! (I am not here to ruin anyone's faith - blind or wide-eyed) Peace :)

amitabh who?

perhaps role-model is too big a word--not just for him but for anyone and everyone. that will allow them to do anything that their conscience/knowledge deems right for them. take a lotta pressure off of their shoulders, no? (who's perfect?)

personally, i have always believed in: you are your own role-model. no matter what you do, your greatest competition is with yourself. try to come up better than before everytime and you'll be a good person, someday.
