Hey guys,

I have a Toshiba laptop that I bought 3 years back. Until recently it was working fine. However, it now shuts down automatically when I am browsing or watching movie. It happens without a warning. It also gets heated too much.

Please suggest me what I should do with this. I know one option is to take it to Best Buy. It would be helpful if you guys can help me find out the problem and fix it.

Thank you for your help guys.

Purush

Purush,

Did you install any unknown software or may be songs from limewire. If you had installed anything unknown software earlier from internet then it might had change your registry. Which means that it has change your basic comp. settings.

Take it to technician. Did you change your comp. fan as Zero crossing said.

let us know.

boot to safe mode (hit F8 when rebooting). Run AV and spyware scan. Make sure there are no virus or any worms - some of them can make the system run at 100% resulting in overheating while other can insert a small code that can cause shutdown  (quite simple actually, the shutdown command, a few bat files and presto ........)

If nothing happens, go with a reinstallation and even after that, buy a new cooler.

buy a new machine.. your 3 yr old machine is antique anyway.

or as said earlier, if possible and when possible, migrate to 'nix/nux.
