Library items help
Hello,
I am actually worried about the problem I am facing with my library stuff. I checked out Dvds from a local library a while back, around first week of December and they were due on mid of december.I renewed them and dropped them around the end or first week of January. Today I went there, to pick few items but the attendent in the library told me that I still have 5 dvds that needs to be checked in. I am 100% sure about dropping them in the drop box.I told them about this but they told me that their system still shows those items are out under my name.
I asked them about the consequences. They told me if I cannot return them I need to pay the replacement fee which is around $35each. This is a huge amount for any student to pay as a fine for the library staff mistake of losing the items or something.
I am asking for any body who might have had similar problem like this about what I do or tell them to convince it.
Thankyou.
Sarkis, it is one of the common mistakes they make. I have had that problem multiple times. Most of the time, they just forget to check those items in. So, go and check for those DVD's in the library and if you find then, let the them know about it. If it is not in the library tell them that you are 100% certain that you have returned the DVD's and talk to the library manage if need be. Normally, you would not have to pay for the DVD's because it is not your fault..
Sarkis, you said that you dropped the DVDs in the drop box. Most of the public libraries have a policies that don't allow DVDs, video cassettes and CDs to be dropped in the drop box (which is for books only). That may be the reason they forgot to check the DVDs in.
They may have already shelved the DVDs and forgot to check them in. You can claim the DVDs as turned in and they will try to find the DVDs. A couple of years ago, they forgot to check in some of the CDs that I had returned. When the CDs still appeared on my account, I went to the libary and searched in the shelves. Then I told them that the CDs were already in. They then took the CDs out of my account. So, the best option for you would be to go to the library and claim that you had already returned the DVDs.
