"Kagbeni  is the first Nepali film releasing simultaneously all over Nepal, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Siliguri, Sikkim, Dehradun, Shimla, Delhi, Calcutta, Mumbai and New York."

- Nepali Times.

Does anybody know when and where in New York is this movie, Kagbeni, being shown in New York?

Looking forward to it.  Review was good, but the promo looked stupendous.  Plus, I always enjoyed watching Monkey's Paw drama back in school.  So, I will be there.  Black-ma bhaye pani ticket kinchu.

man, i am in love with the teaser/trailer. i hope the movie is equally good. definitely looks like a very well crafted movie. the scene where the cloud moves unveiling the sun, illuminating the village is SOO well shot. totally picturesque! BRAVO!

i am eagerly looking forward to it.

where else are they screening in the south apart from Atl, GA?  any idea? Is DVD print coming as well?

strangely enough, they haven't yet planned about screening it in TX. i hope they do it soon.

btw, last nepali movie i saw was of rajesh hamal and some stupid nepali actress--a far cousin of the movie producer. forgot her name. forgot the name of the movie as well. it was a carbon copy, and with a substandard ink, of one of those mithun's flicks of the late nineties -- "kasam vardi ki" or sth...

i don't remember anything apart from that ultimate climax where the villain was about to get killed but cops sneak in and stop the hero while the other hero saves the "heroni" from being raped but himself gets killed in the process.

Riten,

Eagle Theater is definitely dirtier, older, not-so-well-maintained than others, and can sometimes get pretty stuffy sitting in there. However, I personally have not encountered any "udus-upiyaan" in my numerous visits there. I suspect that is an exageration on the part of some.

Whatever the downside(s) of the theater, I believe, will be overshadowed by the wonderful movie.

Seriously, if you plan to be there, we can meet up and do momos or daal-bhat nearby before or after the movie. Let me know. 917-670-1057

Sorry Poonte.  I decided to pass on the movie and stay in, with the temperature dipping to 20's... and then there is one small game in TV... some obscure teams who call themselves Giants and Packers.....

So... how was it?

Now about that invite for daal-bhaat...............................

Adapted from the Monkey's Paw (the 2nd half was exactly that except instead of using the moors in Northern England, the setting is Kagbeni and the Jomsom area).  Reminded me of the play that was performed in the house concert every other year at school.  Apart from that, movie was acted well (actors are all professional theatre performers in Ktm).  Highlight of the movie: The love scene, that did make all around the hall twitch a lil...Was uncalled for, but justice was done considering that the conservative Nepali film industry is still in its infant stages (superglued to that same caliber for the past 20 years or so).  BTW, besides the main roles, Mohammed Hanif has done a terrific job...Never knew that the bugger could act except for the occasional roles back in the days during the school concerts.  Awesome!!

It was absolutely pathetic.  The original story itself is probably powerful in its delivery but there was an utter disconnect felt throughout the movie and it failed miserably in translating the effect on screen. In any case, it was my first nepali movie experience in almost 8 years and I guess I was happy to be there.
