I never was a big movie buff until recently. I started out by watching older movies and worked my way to more recent ones. Could anybody suggest me some good movies from 2006-2007 that I could relish before school resumes in about a week? The genres in order are listed as follows.
Comedy
Horror
Documentaries
Drama
Thriller
Foreign.

P.S : NO Bollywood

There is new movie (i think it had limited release in 07) called "there will be blood". I guess its best described as drama. The actor is daniel lewis ("bill the butcher" from gangs of new york) .... supposedly he is even better than deniro or al pacino....

I thought departed was from 2006 :).

Movies like "No country for old men" come very few and far between. It is simply phenomenal in every aspect, that's for sure. The only reason it might not win an oscar is the same reason analogous to the "the sixth sense" in 1999 (no offence to American Beauty).

. My list of Best Movies of 2007 in order of my own ranking with a little details:

1. The Man From Earth: It was probably released in only three or four theatres in the East Coast. So, I had to download and watch this movie. In my opinion, this is the best movie of 2007. The movie deals with the question of "Is it possible for a person to NEVER die?" It has been classified as a Sci-Fi movie, but I have to warn you Sci-Fi nuts that there is not a single special effect. The whole movie starts in a room and ends in a room with people discussing and arguing philosophically about the question asked above. I cried with satisfaction after the movie was over.

2. Once: The best musical of 2007. I can watch this movie continuously for three or four times, just for the sake of listening to those songs. I got tired of watching the movie for the songs, so I got the Soundtrack of the movie in my iPod now. You have to watch this movie simply for the way the leading lady (who also happens to a singer and sang all her songs in the movie) sings and cries during a piano-song.

3. Juno: There's something about Ellen Page that I cannot resist. Is it her face or her voice or the way she acts? I don't know, but I'm attracted to her. Also, it helps when the dialogues are witty, full with irony and sarcasm. I never expected an American comedy to come close to the British in terms of heavy wits and dialogue. This movie has it all. Plus, the performances are great. I watched it twice in a row, with no breaks. In addition, this movie has the best soundtrack of all the movies released in 2007. REMEMBER, this is not a musical, it just happens to have the BEST SOUNDTRACK of 2007. I have discovered that Ellen Page was responsible for picking most of the songs in the movie. One more reason to love her: she has great taste in music.

4. No Country For Old Men: Well, the Coen Brothers cannot go wrong in my eyes. I absolutely loved Fargo and The Big Lebowski. Fargo is actually one of my favorite movies, having lived in the area for four years. But, watching No Country for Old Men, I realized this was probably the best western since Clint Eastwood's "Good, Bad and the Ugly".  I may be wrong, but I loved this movie.

5. Across the Universe: Ever wondered what it would be like to have the best songs by the Beatles in one single movie. Well, you are in luck. THIS is the movie! It is a musical set in Vietnam-Era America and England. The guy's name is Jude and the gal's name is Lucy. Get it? And Jude is from Liverpool, UK. Lucy is from Boston, USA. The best Special Effects in a movie of 2007 cannot be seen in any Sci-Fi movie, but in THIS ONE. A scene where Lucy's brother is drafted in the military is the best use of special effects in 2007. You have to watch it to believe it.

Special Mentions:
Gone Baby Gone: I did not know Ben Affleck would be this good. He performed above my expectations. And, I will watch anything that has Casey Affleck and Michelle Monaghan. They are one of the few actors that I would watch in anything. If it was not for Michelle Monaghan, I would have never watched the crap-fest called The Heartbreak Kid. Also, have you seen Casey Affleck and Matt Damon in the movie Gerry? You will have a newfound respect for both of them.

Death At  A Funeral: Leave it to the British to make a comedy about a day in the funeral. One of the main characters spends half the movie walking around naked in the church where the funeral is being held. Go figure!

Rescue Dawn: Typical American war-hero movie. But, I don't mean any disrespect to the story of the movie, which was actually based on true story. However, the only reason to watch the movie is for Christian Bale's performance. Otherwise, the movie is average, to say the least. I don't care how many Batman movies Christian Bale plays in, I will always remember him for The Machinist and Harsh Times. I could not care any less about the freakin' Batman and Superman.
