Once a friend of mine asked the same question and it was really difficult for me to define criteria that would define a true Nepali. As I delve into it, I was looking for a common criterion that would comprise all the Nepalis.  I couldn't find a common denominator to include everyone (including you) : people from mountain to hill, east to west, all ethnic groups and all dialects.  As I was pondering a thought popped into my mind:

A NEPALI IS THAT PERSON WHO HAS NEPALINESS AND NEPALINESS IS THAT FEELING THAT EMANATES WHEN ONE IS NEPALI .

It is paradoxical and doesn't give any discrete answer; I, in my moronic regard, feel it as a rational opinion. I believe anyone can be a Nepali if one meets my afore-mentioned criteria regardless of the Nepali citizenship certificate issue.

A true nepali is a person who is always positive. He always has happy face though he has lot of pains in his heart. He is the person who thinks about getting better education and help in the development of Nepal. He is the person who supports leader like MAHATMA GANDHI to bring revolution in the country. He loves Nepalis and respects human life. He loves peace. He even loves his enemy.

If a Person pulls another person's leg than that person is true nepali.
If one is jealous of other, and starts talking crap about the other, than the person is true Nepali.
Mukh ma Ram Ram bagali ma chura... jasko characteristics ho, That person is true Nepali.

Bhaute je

Good one

If your family sucks  blood by corruption and criminal activities, and you think it is right, you're a true 100% Nepali.

If you're a coward with "Bir Gorkey" as your mantra to identify yourself, you're a true Nepali.

I have more...few are here and few more will be posted later......

A true Nepali is a Nepali who does not like to see other fellow Nepali higher than him in anything.

A true Nepali is a Nepali who does not like to agree with a fellow Nepali even if he thinks the other one is right.

A true Nepali is a Nepali who thinks he/she is the most intelligent person in Nepalese community.

A true Nepali is a Nepali who says he/she hates dhotis but cannot live without dhoti films and songs.

I have another one:

A true Nepali is a Nepali who fights another Nepali in a Nepali party  after getting drunk.

airheads...yeah you are 100% right about that (I missed that one in my list). In 90% of the Nepali parties there is a fight. Most times for very silly reasons (gf is the no.1 reason). It is always alcohol playing the major part. Now I feel I am not in a Nepali party/get together if there is no scene of vomiting (excessive drinking) and/or atleast a fight.

Brother, Look at my nick ....

My dear fellow forum users :

True Nepali is neither a Pakhe, Nor a Ghamandi

It's an attitude. That come comes from the heart of anybody; whether you have "US Green Card" or Citizenship, it does not matter. The thing that matters is....

the development of Nepal. If you can't feel while your country is crying for the sake of peace, if you can't contribute a 'minute' for Nepal, you are Not.

It's not like Maury's show, where he finds "Ture Father" by DNA test or whatsoever, it's your inner feelings that makes you think about a Developed Nepal. It's all about time.

If I wrote unnecessary words, please forgive me. I know I am not a true nepali, but I want to be. The eductaional degree, I got from USA can give me new Honda Civic, Apple MacPro, an iPhone or vaccation to Miami beach or Las Vegas,

but it can't give me feeling of being a true Nepali until and unless I spend a part of my time, my achievements and my knowledge for the sake of country where I born.

Jai Nepal

God airheads thats so petty!! Don't you have any true nepali manners or culture that makes you proud??

This is shocking!! As a girl I know that a true nepali girl uses two hands to give anything to others and is very polite..

We respect ou r elders and love our younger ones ..are very hardworking, boli ko pakka, kind, dedicated..we can't lie as smartly as the indians ..and often get caught when we try to..and ofcourse we are brave...BUT then people like airheads might not have a true nepali qualities as it all depends on ones brought up

Al though the country has ended up in this mess ..we love Peace and Harmony ...

Long Live Nepal

A true Nepali greets everyone with a hearty 'NAMASTE!' and parts with a 'DHANYABAD!' A true Nepali smokes grass at every opportunity. A true Nepali enjoys a plate of dhalbat and momos. A true Nepali can squeeze his car through a needle hole. A true Nepali knows all the back lanes between two main roads. A true Nepali enjoys doing nothing on the rooftop. A true Nepali is very good at bargaining at the market. A true Nepali celebrates 365 festivals. A true Nepali has a simple life but high thinking.
