Bihe, Dowry & Nepstralian Morality
Bihe season in cathmandu ////////////
Many of the sajhaites know that I have just come from the Karnali trip. Now in Kathmandu there is …Bihe season…. and I was “fortunate†to attend some of the lavish marriage parties here.
And I feel that it is a crime keeping in mind how people live in Mugu and Jumla and how Kathmanduites spend in marriages.
I recently attended the marriage of a Nepstralian. This guy actually demanded a dowry of 500K in cash and lot of things in kind.
How moral is this?
Now the basic question is --- Have the Nepricans and Nepstralians learnt anything by studying in US and Australia? … if they come home and demand Dowries… what the f#$%^ have they learnt?
Hulaki,
The timings could not be better for you. You did witnessed the difference in city and rural life style in matter of days and the question you have raised here is noteworthy. Having said that, I donot condemn what "haves" tend to do, that "have not's" can't do in our society. The difference between "have" and "have not's" is just the way it has been since ages. Its not just capitalistic society, the gap between have's and havenot's is but obvious even in socialist societies as well. It depnds upon individual and they should always have right to spend their money the way" they want." After all thats what is called property rights , isn't it??? if you bust your azz off to earn that, you should be able to spend it the way you want.
Coming back to your second point, Wedding of Nepstrians, by the way I liked the way you coined that term, "Nepstrians" or "Nepricans". Its really sad to see this happen these days. My heart goes out for those parents who sell their daughter(s) to be a servant in someone elses house.... Pathetic!!Just cant figure out why the f@@k they pay money to get their daughter(s) married. Cant they just beat the shit out of the guy who asks for money and(for) wife together??? I sure do hope this is just an isolated incident. May be that answers your last question, "what the f#$%^ have they learnt??"

.........................!?
mmmmmmmm
HULAKI DAHLING WHY DON'T YOU WRITE DOWN THE NAME OF THAT BRIDE WHO DEMANDED 500K FOR DOWRY.
IF POSSIBLE POST HIS PICTUER TOO.
SO AT LEAST WE KNOW WHAT KIND OF PERSON HE IS.
IF POSSIBLE WRITE DOWN HIS EMAIL AND CONTACT NUMBER TOO.
I WILL MAKE THIS GUY UNDERSTAND THAT WE ARE NEPALESE AND NOT DHOTI.
OK THANKS ....AND GOD BLESS YOU.
HAVE A GOOD WEEKENDS.
Why don't u file a case against the groom who's asing for dowry
It is immoral and criminal.
can somebody share some specifics about Nepalese laws against dowry.
by the way what is the name of this guy , i think it should be disclosed and turned to media .
But it might be a jealous person trying to tarnish somebody else's character
. I am suspicious but still am against dowry system.
Hulaki i am still waiting for your response?
Also friends can you still tell me weather this kind of custom is still practised in Nepal?
Hulaki's mission is to do Hulaki Job
he cant file a case nor expose some individuals....
here is a whole attitude to life, that needs to be reshaped.............K garne?
then what you want to do.............just sit back, relax and chill out with beer while the family of bridesgroom has to pay 500K. is that what you doing then Hulaki? knowing that injustice has been inflicted in the girl's family you only want to hightlight it but do nothing.
at least if we know that person, who you said is educated in australia we can do something.....DOR!!
hahaha Dowry of 500K only? It would've been wiser if he had asked for a car, flat, etc. like they do in the movies. 500K would only get you a Maruti these days. hahah
Anyway, am glad they frown upon this practice in my community. Educated and civilized the matwalis of Nepal may not've been, but they did uphold the sanctity of marriage and not make it into an all out bidding war selling their son to the highest bidder out there. This business has got to go as it makes no sense in today' era.
