Departure with Green Card
All,
I left Washington DC few days ago. I have a Green Card. I was not asked to show my Green Card at departure. I just got boarding pass, went through security check and boarded. I even asked there if I needed to present my Green Card. They said no need. I came to Kathmand via London, Doha.
Did anyone come in this route? Anybody was asked to present Green Card?
They only need it when you enter U.S.You don't need to show when you leaving country.
other than usa (countries) doesn;t care whterther u have green card or not .they only care your passport so it;s normal ..
Thanks friends,
What wonders me is that a green card holder can stay outside not more than one year.
How will they track if a person stayed more than a year if they don't record the departure. Just a curious....
Thank you
hey micky mouse, technically you can only stay outside the US not more than 6 months and up to a year with prior notification. but you're right as they don't have any way to track when you left (i should say they don't have standard tracking mechanism). the only way to check would be the date stamped on your nepali passport.
so stay as long as you want in nepal....as long as your green card has more than 6 months left to the expiration date. all you've had to do on your way back is apply and come with a new nepali passport but make sure you tell the immigration back in the US you were only out for couple months
i would not make taht mistake of thinking there is no tracking system blah blah. it may come back to hunt you especially if u are planning on applying for citizenship later.
stupid Micky Mouse.....

You are one wise man in this thread. If you were a US citizen you would be the happiest person amoung all Nepalese. Is that what you mean?
Your response seems that you are an illegal immigrant who is jealous with legal status Nepalese.

You might want to surrender Disembarkation card. Disembarakation is also not asked, but you have to surrender so that when you return their database shows that you left America. I don't know about green card holders, but I know others have to do it. I guess green card holders also have a cap time that you can remain outside USA, and in that case, you might need to update your information in immigration USCIS by telling them your departure date, and it is via the disembarkation card. Unlike to other countries, US immigration is absent at departure lounge. So, it should be volunteer surrender.
If you have disembarkation card that is with you, it would better to find ways to surrender or pass it to USCIS. Though I am talking RAW talk.
Good Luck.
