This thread is for those who are willing to meliorate their lexicon. Here are some rules if you want to join this thread. I. Every FIFTH poster posts a new word with its meaning. II. The other 4 posts will be for the comments on your word, its root word, synonyms and sentence using the word. III. No personal comments, No foul language. We respect others to get respect!!!!! IV. Try to read at least last four postings. The word to kick this thread off is: AMICABLE: Characterized by friendship and good will.

Animosity gives the opposite meaning. However,it is not the exact antonym of THE word. Good thread. Nice and less boring way to increase the voabulary. I am IN.

I am not sure that following posts obeys rules above or not(if not ignore it) but found interesting in encyclopedia about amicable numbers: Amicable numbers are two numbers so related that the sum of the proper divisors of the one is equal to the other, unity being considered as a proper divisor but not the number itself. Such a pair is (220, 284); for the proper divisors of 220 are 1, 2, 4, 5, 10, 11, 20, 22, 44, 55 and 110, of which the sum is 284; and the proper divisors of 284 are 1, 2, 4, 71, and 142, of which the sum is 220 Good nice thread.Better learning practice. Thanks to RajaHarischandra.

Thanks every one, Hi_nanu, Regarding the mathematical menaing of AMICABLE, I think they characterized the two numbers as being friends to each other. In math, it is called a relation and depends how you define. So, here in your example, the define the friendship between any two numbers in the described way. BTW, its again my turn to throw new word: EMULOUS: (Adjectives): Arising from emulation or imitation/ Eager to surpass others.

Serendipity also means good luck. The word has its roots in "The Three Princes of Serendip", a Persian story about three princes who had the knack of discovering things quite by chance In 2000, serendipity was voted Britain’s favourite word.
