Dear Friends, I had started PhD program in an US university last January. There has been lot of conflit between me and my professor regarding my PhD research project. So, I am thinking of terminating this PhD and applying to some other universities. If i terminate this program, will it be considered as academic dishonesty? Can my professor create any problem in the future if I leave this program? What may be the other consequences? Looking forward for your advice. -Tandoori

Nothing will happen. Continue this semester there, apply to other universities asap (as admission dead line for good universities are passing quickly).......get admission from other university.......your course with grade B or better might get transfer.....don't ask for recommendation letter with that Prof.......good luck. If you couldn't get admission from other university then story might be different.

yes, sathi. This is a fact of life. You fight with a professor, you transfer to a better school if you can, and America is a land of freedom, there is no dishonesty in a student's transferring a university and it is as common as the professors themselves transferring university. I recently visited a top school where a chitwane guy is studying, and guess what five of his classmates changed the dept and moved there. Incidentally, all were foreigners. If you are performing really well in, say university of Kentucky, why limit yourself to Kentucky and why not move to Princeton? This world doesn't have limit, and it belongs to the conquerors. So, fu(k the professor.Shit happens. Move to another school, and show him finger the day you move. No one can do anything. In fact, the professor probably deserves what you do. But didn't you start just this january? why are you so frustrated so soon? (Today is just feb 3, right?)

yeah.... if u just started in jan why are u in such a hurry to transfer.. give it some time.. first few months in grad school are horrible.. worst times in my life seriously i am trying to transfer from the grad school that i am in too i just don't like the city that i am in anymore.. if you wanna transfer though, it shouldn't be that bad as far as i know.. i reapplied to some other schools that i applied last year . haven't heard from anyone yet but it shouldn't be that bad at all..

no one, it is too early to hear from any school now, isn't it? ---- I love America's universities. You CAN transfer wherever, whenever, whichever time you like. Find the best combo, friends, the best combo of professor and you can produce the best result. If professor sucks, it is not worth going to grad school. Your life could be a hell. All grad year could be like a nightmare.
