Sapper, how about trying the Air Force? Navy recruiters will f*ck your life up. Trust me. They never tell you about the actual job you are gonna be doing in the navy. I wanted to be an airplane technician and I was promised that job but it never happened. I did get a job in the aviation field but it wasn't working on planes. However, I do not regret joining the navy. It was hell of an experience. Anyways, right now I am negotiating with an Air National Guard recruiter. If I get the right job with the ANG, I am definitely re-enlisting. Oh yea, since you have a bachelors degree already you can enlist as an E-3. After that you can get your citizenship and try to get into OCS. Oh also, DO NOT TAKE THE SIGN-IN BONUS OR COLLEGEFUND CRAP. It might add an extra year or 2 in your contract. If you don't like the service after you join then you are screwed. Goodluck.
Tblazing ,it is very hard to decide the right field .doing active duty is better or national guard ?navy or airforce ,what u suggest to do ?how it is possible to get E3 directly?is it really possible to o college in active duty ?does army training from nepal helps me? u have alots of ideas ,so could you plz share it in detail??
I am going to Danish Navy next year for a basic training. It is not by my own choice but because of the Danish law.
Every citizen here in Denmark MUST do military service; Military sends you a letter to come for a test.
The test contains an I.Q test and Physical test. If you pass the both then you have to pull a number between 1 – 35000 like a lottery. If you pull a number between 1- 15000 then you MUST take a basic military training, in different fields. And it is you who choose which field you want to try, if you don’t know which field to choose then they will choose for you.
If you pull the number between 15000 – 35000 then you are free to go.
If you pull a low number and you don’t want to go to military, then you MUST do 9 months of community service.
I pulled number 101, and I choose to go to the navy for 4 months basic training, as I like travelling and sailing.
Danish friends tease me saying “Mountain boy sailing in the ocean.â€
Bit curious to see how it is.
Well, Sapper ji, this is how it works. If you have more than 24 college credits, you can go in as an E-3. I got my E-3 as soon as I finished my bootcamp. Pay is not very much different from E-1 to E-3 but you are qualified to take the E-4 exam sooner, about 6 months after you have become E-3. After you make E-4, you get more pay, more respect but with more responsibilties.
Yes, it is possible to go to college while on active duty. I took some college courses while I was on the ship. There are many ways to get education during your military career.
Guard duty is a bit different. It's more like the Reserve component but it is funded different by the government. Guard belongs to the state such as the NY National Guard. Reserve and Guard do basically the same thing but Guard is supposed to be actived only during national emergencies. Well, not in the case of the Mr. Bush's regime. Anyways, for both Guard and Reserve , you do have to do 1 or 2 years of active duty. After that you just have to do 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks out of the year. You can get 100% tuition assistance for you college plus you can get your Montgomery G.I. Bill. I say it's not bad at all. $1034 per month tax free money is better than nothing. If you need more information about the reserves and guard, you can check the following websites.

OK Mr. Sapper, sorry for the delay. I was away for the Thanks Giving holiday. The Coast Guard is also one of the great branches of the military. The Coast Guard works under the department of transportation during peace time. They do search and rescue operations around the coast of the americas. They also do a lot of operations to stop drug trafficking. During war time they do work along side with the Navy and other branches. Well, thats how much I know. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Happy Holidays!!!
