in thailand the parliament is controlled by army and ex-army [ retired general]. if i am not mistaken military has 40% seats. plus the ex-army ppl.. so it really does not matter whether there is a coup or not... the prime-minister is just a puppet ran by army

I guess it is going to happen in nepal too as we consider the ongoing situation. Afterall, the army was loyal to King in thailand and its the same story in nepal as well. Girija has opened the door to coup in nepal by making the person who is loyal to king as the Chief of the Nepalese Army

Do they really had to coup to throw PM? Wonder if Thai people are brave enough to protest like Nepalese against military/king rule.

The difference to Nepal's situation is that Thailand had a very powerful [elected] prime minister who was doing all he could to grab more power [and getting very unpopular in the process], while the king has been rather hands-off...

Lovehater..you are right but your timing wasn't right..means Coup was very likely if Girija didn't made Katuwal COAS.No matter who says what Girija is freaking smart jackel..it is his weapon. If Girija listened to these people and restuctured Nepal army at this time ..then there would be more chaos. It is NA that Maoist hasn't dared to Attack KTM. As far as i see.. coup is not going to happen in Nepal ..infact For Congress and UML there is two option: to be killed by maoist or to kill maoist in coming days.

I think If Maoist keep on continuing their barbaric act. Gyanendra will strike back and We will sadly need to accept him. There is a say " Danka bhanda chor jati"

In Thailand, the King is respected -- nay, worshipped and revered. You can't walk anywhere in public without seeing his photo around, either in shop-fronts or in public squares. A few Thai people I have had a chance to speak to all day today say that Thaksin is popular with the people in the villages (for whom he has apparently done a lot in terms of building infrastructue, doing economic development, etc), but lost support in the cities, notably in Bangkok. Meantime, Thai military says that it's only in power for about two weeks. They are going to name a provisional PM and hand over power to him. It'll be interesting to see what develops in days ahead. oohi ashu haal: somewhere in thailand

King Gyanendra must be grinning :) Alas, for all the reasons cited above, I think it won't be as easy to reproduce the same scenario in Nepal.
